Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Great work on the roof, sucks to see on the cowl. Nice score on the 4 bolt main! It's really taking shape real nice! Keep at it!

Yea the 4 bolt is nice to see but i took my standard crank down to the machine shop and they said the "thrust "was out of it and needs welded and it was probly cheaper to find another crank. He has some core cranks he can turn for an extra 50 bucks. Not sure what Im going to do yet. |

Its going to be more work than the repop part but alot cheaper. I dug it out of my buddys scrap trailer he said just cut out what I need and bring back the left overs:metal: |

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
It looks good eve the wire gutter is in good shape. I only see a small spot of rust and that is fixable. God job on finding that piece.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
I just wanted to say it's colder than all get out up here so I hope you're outside getting progress done! It got down to 2* last night. This morning the lights in the shop wouldn't come on at all.

I also removed the pass side part of the cowl looked pretty rusty
in there then I hit it with the wire wheel and it cleaned up nice. There is some pitting but i dont think its enough to have to replace any of it. What should i coat this with before replacing panel? I have some epoxy primer and some self etching but I was thinking of just getting a rattle can of rustoluem heavy rust coating. |
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
I like your progress. I would hit it with some Rustoleom Extend or Rust-mort. They do a decent job of stopping rust. The downside is it smells bad when you weld though it

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Good deal! Nice to see theres no major rot in there!
|
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
cool project, you do excellent work
|
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Rustoleom puts out a builder primer that work great. It dubles the paint on the surface. and gei this even slow down the rust. Did I say slow down well nothing will stop what has already took place.

Made some progress today finished up the pass side cowl replacment.
There was some rust behind fender mounting bracket so I went ahead and cut a peice to replace rust and shave blower hole. |
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

Well the driver side is going to need a little more work than the pass side did.
Nothing to bad just a few pin holes just going to take longer than i'd hoped. I almost thought about just geting rid of the fresh air vent all together but I think ill keep it. |
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Yep a little worse than the pass side for sure! You'll knock it out though!!
|
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
So i returned the firwall i was using for patch panels to my buddy last week thinking i would not need anything else but I did that before removing driver side cowl. Now that it looks like i need some more patches so I called my buddy and sure enough he took it to scrap. I guess ill just have to fab my own!

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Got a call from the machine shop today and they told me that my
block was cracked. So between the crank being bad and the block being cracked it might be easier to find another complete core. Funny thing is the motor ran decent before i pulled it I guess you can never tell. |
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Sorry to hear that bro
