Keep at it and you'll get there. Just make sure you don't sacrifice quality and safety for a deadline..

The blitz black is cheap. Something like $30 a gallon if I remember right. It's also THE most durable paint you come across.

There's the problem. I am running into compatability issues between 67/68 and 69/72 parts... and since I have a '68 and half the parts I have are from the '69, stuff isn't fitting. Thankfully a lot of '69 stuff works for both, but the '69 was a hodge podge of parts also... slowly I'm sorting it out.

:metal: Got my parts back from the sandblaster today :metal:

Gonna take 'em home and clean and at least get some primer on them tonight, not that that will help much but it's going to be like 15º tonight so it won't really dry too fast! Probably shoot some paint on it tomorrow morning, of course it's not going to be much warmer then, they're saying 20's tomorrow for a high. Guess I'll spray them and let them take their time drying. Going to be sunny at least.

Picked up that paint you suggested Rob, They had them at the Pape place a mile from work, $8 a can. Guy there couldn't stop raving about it. They even have white, so there's my paint for the top if I like the way this looks. :metal: Thanks man!

Awesome! Parts look great. See, I told you it's good stuff. I know when you buy the gallons you can change the sheen by the amount of thinner used. Never seen the can style but I'm sure it's good too! Can't wait to see it!

When it comes to the actual bodywork and paint I'm going to leave that to the experts, I have tried my hand at that and I suck at it  I'm great at bolting things together and finding ways to make stuff work well, but I just don't have the eye for bodywork.

So hey was thinking about hitting Renee's C-10 get together in October... I'll definitely be done by then if you wanna roll down there with me. :metal: You're right on the way there!

Absolutely.

Renee is an awesome guy that knows how to throw a party. I went last year and brought the wife. Was a ton of fun. I see him at swap meets and what not all the time. Remind me when it gets a bit closer if you still want to come.

Maybe my truck will be ready too... :bsf:

I learned last night that primer that is supposed to dry in 15 minutes takes about 9 hours in 22º weather. I need a heated paint booth!!!

Well I got an unintended snow day (since there's snow on the ground all the traffic all around Portland is at a standstill, and I have to drive thru Portland to get to work) so I thought I'd make use of it and get my steering shaft fixed. Look at the hokey contraption I came up with to push the shaft out... but it worked! 19" from slot to the face of the rag joint. Ready to rock. Well, after sanding the rust off and re-painting.

Made some progress today. This week I've been taking advantage of the warmer weather and doing some painting when it's not been raining. Got the headlight buckets and the steering shaft painted, and got the splash apron all done. So today I started assembling stuff. My truck now steers, brakes, and has almost all it's sheet metal. I painted the cowl with the John Deere flat black that Rob suggested, and it looks killer! Nice and smooth! It's drying right now, I'll take pics tomorrow. Tomorrow if weather cooperates I will paint the grille!

On to the pics.

Got the grille done today. I am totally stoked about this paint that Rob suggested. The finish is KILLER. I did 5 light coats on the cowl, grille, and mirror arms, and they all look awesome. Going to wait 2 days, then polish the stainless hoops, and install them and the grille bowtie. Should have it all together by the weekend. Then it's on to the hood and fenders.

After that the real fun begins... the bed! Going to bring the floor down and have it blasted after I cut the rail for the gas tank to fit. Getting there. :metal:

Rob - I'll probably easily be done for Renee's meet. Better hurry up with your truck!!!

On to the pics. Wish the finish really came thru clearly in the pics, it looks killer in person!!!

Going to order the. 4-link in a week or so. Since you'll be done early come help on mine. It's on like 16 hours of driving.

LOL sure I'll leave now, see ya tomorrow about noon!

Gonna grab the white they have there too for the top. If it looks half as good as the black it's gonna kick serious ass. \m/.

They had it when I was there to pick up the 2 cans of flat black, and wanted to see how the black came out before I grabbed the white too. I'll probably need 2-3 cans of white to do the top, maybe 4. One thing I've noticed is that this paint doesn't cover much. I used almost a can just for the grille. It looks killer so I"m not worried, and it's not super expensive.

And from what I've read its indestructible. They made it for tractors so I'm sure it will last.

I'll be putting that to the test then, end of summer, central valley, hoardes of bugs. Sometimes I can barely see out the windshield after only an hour.

Re: 69 LWB Power Tour Rig

Well got a few things done this week so far. Grille is together and ready to install. Now I have to finish plumbing the cooler, install the cooler, then i can install the grille. Also got my power steering pump from Summit, and had to bite the bullet and got the housing and reservior kit from CPP (GASP!). I paid for it yesterday and surprise I still haven't got a shipping email. I figure monday or tuesday. Good thing I'm not in a hurry for it, huh?

Also grabbed inner fenders (Goodmark ones too!) from Rick at Chevy Metal, along with the correct PS pulley he had at his shop he gave me. Only body part I am missing now is the rear sport bumper. I probably won't have time to work on the truck this weekend, the next 2 weeks are filled with tons of studio work (lots of new music on it's way) but I'll be back on it the weekend after next hopefully.

Onward! :metal:

Made some progress today. I had to get the trans cooler lines up into the grille area, so I drilled 2 holes in the splash apron, grabbed grommets for the lines, and installed the splash apron and grille. Got everything half way lined up and hood closes and looks ok for now. Next step is the hood, then the fenders. Progress!

Got my power steering pump and reservoir now, I'll assemble that and install it once the brackets and pulleys are all cleaned up and painted.

Pics!

Plus I snagged a pair of stock exhaust manifolds today, going to have those blasted and then paint them with POR15 Exhaust Gray. Getting lots done!! :sumo:

Getting it blasted tomorrow, probably get a chance to paint it next weekend. When that's done, I'll actually have everything to finish assembling the whole engine. Just gotta do a rebuild on the carb, and it'll be ready. :chevy:

One step closer!!! :metal:

Did some assembly on the engine, with the newly painted brackets, new valve covers, etc. The fan shroud is a little rough, gotta clean it up and paint it. I had to order the exhaust gray from Summit, they don't have it locally. should be here wednesday, might be able to install them by the weekend.

Also realized when I tried to put my heater box in yesterday I have the wrong one... I need one from an AC cab, not a non-AC. Oh well. Anyone want a heater setup that I just cleaned up really good?

Yea man, I'll send you a PM. And thanks on the manifolds guys. I was very pleasantly surprised by how they looked when done. I still have to install the studs, but it's just drying now on the backs. Probably going to install this weekend. :metal:

So here's the manifolds all ready to go, just gotta get the bolts for the head. Also, the 700R4 I scored off Craigslist yesterday, $200! Works great, got to test it before he pulled it out of the Suburban. I promise you, there is a transmission under all that grease!!!! Gonna be fun cleaning that.

Working on running transmission cooler lines this week. Was a challenge to get the cooler lines around the shroud but I got it, all the lines are out of sight, nothing hanging out into the engine compartment, just in the frame rails. Just have to get 2 90º -6 AN fittings for the cooler and I'm all hooked up.
Also bent up the fuel line from the pump to the carb, but not totally happy with it, so I'll do it over. I figure if I'm going thru the trouble, might as well do it right!

Next... clean and paint the booster, and install the exhaust manifolds. Damn, I'm running out of parts to install. :metal:

Core support fits pretty good, didn't have any problems. I haven't bolted the fenders down all the way yet since I still have to paint them, but everything lined up good so no worries. I'll definitely be taking a video of when I get it started!!! :metal:

Got a lot done today, thanks to my awesome (and strong) wife, she helped me pull the bed floor off so I didn't have to walk it off with blankets like I've been doing. First off, got the gas tank turned around and mounted, rerouted the line and the wiring. I'm not totally thrilled with the rubber line, but I'll make a metal line later when I finish up.
