My first '52 is not for sale. The funny part is this truck is getting the color scheme that I was planning for mine when I built it but it ended up the way it is. Attachment 2098246 |

Well after much thinking on how to make the original gauges work with this motor, I could not justify the cost to fix them so they would work for me.
So this is not my idea but executed it my way. Turned out way better than I was hoping. Problems with stock was: oil pressure gauge to low, Amp meter, temp gauge did not work. First they are 2" gauges Pry off the trim ring Take new gauge guts out Grind off lip on housing fuel gauge is done in second pic. Use 2" hole saw Align gauge housings and tack weld in. Reassemble gauge guts Attachment 2098253 Attachment 2098254 Attachment 2098255 Attachment 2098256 Attachment 2098257 |
Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
looks great.
That is what I tried to do with my S10 gauges, but should have done it with new gauges, like you did. Well Done |
Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Slick idea and well executed!

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
That’s a really nice way to keep the original cluster. I also battled with the S10 gauges to reuse them, but I am not really happy with what I have so far. Those Bosch units came out looking really nice. If I can’t improve on what I have, I think I will try what you did. Nice work!!!

Today I got the 2.5" mandrel stainless exhaust tacked together with another one of my turbo mufflers. The muffler is a stainless baffled straight trough design. I have had one on my diesel Jeep for a year and my diesel Jetta since October. Not sure about what to do with the exhaust tip but this will do for now.

A week ago I got the wood for the deck, I bought 2" rough cut kiln dried Ash. It was planed down to 1.75" to have sharp edges. On the weekend I got the deck frame put together. It will get a gray wash and then bolted down. The outer frame is 2"X 3/16" and the deck measures 5.5' X 7'.

How are you joining the boards together? The wood looks great!

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
i have mixed feelings about this being a flatbed ... but i'll wait on the final execution to see. great execution on it though, should be a pretty deck!

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Very cool and fast build you have done here. I really like the simplicity of it. I also figured you would have put a regular step side bed on it but I'll set back and see how it ends up looking. I was surprised to see you were building it to sell too. Everyone needs multiple swapped rides, right?

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Just ordered the tune for the motor.
Stock is 90hp 155 lb-ft Stage 3 tune 134whp 235wtq I have the same power level in my Jeep tdi and it is a rocket. I'm going to drive the truck at first with stock power then put the tune in. |
Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
On the weekend I got the dash wiring about 99% terminated, also got the ps lines made and working.

So I got a TON of work done this past week as I had holidays and was not allowed to go anywhere due to lockdown still.
Rear lights are all installed I modeled it from the original tow truck bed and the lights hooked up. The bed was painted and installed then I terminated all the connections in a trailer box above the trailer hitch. Then I finished painting the cab and fenders and flat clear coated them. Once they where dry I installed the fenders, installed the front lights and painted and bolted the bumper on.

Friday I was finally able to go into the hardware store due to lockdown being eased up and I got the semi transparent gray stain for the bed wood. 2 coats looks perfect then installed with 5/16" stainless bolts and the back half of the truck is done. In between the tie downs is 50", the bed should be good for 6-800lb. Then I hooked up the front lights the terminal strip will be behind some rubber, this has worked good on my truck for 5 years.

i love the terminal blocks! i used 2 of them on my trailer, but hadn't thought about them for the 55.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Great work.
I wasn't too sure about the flatbed when you mentioned it a few weeks ago, but it looks so 'professional' that it looks like it could have been a 'Commercial' option for the truck. Well Done, it looks great |
