Bare wood
Sand with 220
One coat of SPAR
Sand again with 400 lightly just to produce a fine powder
Then two more even coats of SPAR.

Not 3x sanding between coats.. :D Once between coats at varying grit.

The top gets the same, .. just one more 400 or 500 sanding lightly and a final coat.

That makes a LOT more sense....I misunderstood ;)

Sorry .. here it is. The original, perfectly painted with crappy, mysterious silver bedliner stuff.

By the way, all the crappiness in the bed has been scrapped. The front panel, inner fenders, bed floor, and all supports are gone. We just kept the bed sides and tailgate. The rest will all be original West coast GM stuff, painted like you see on the tailgate and the new bedwood. .. Polished, Stainless strips I bought from Losh, polished bolts etc.. It should turn out pretty cool. I can't wait to get it back together.

They might sell pillows at home depot, you could haul them in that bed. Just cut the tags off first:lol:

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

The guy that final prepped and sprayed my gate for me is going to paint my stepper too. I have the cab really close to sealer and the front clip is all really solid. I need to run the 400 block around it two or three more passes and line it all up and I'm going to take it to him.

I'm thinking black with a white top and white grille section for it now. I love a black truck. The white would be 2001 Z06 Speedway white.

Just sayin, .. he is good. I have known him for a long time.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I'm thinking about a 69 Camaro type flip down tag bracket and a hidden hitch .. just incase I need to haul a trailer or something. I have a JD Z425 ZTR mower I may need to haul on occasion but that's about it ..

Or a car trailer to haul home my next 'Home Depot' truck? :D LOL !

I have found the most awesome shop right below my house. I called the guy today. It is a 3 bay garage with a brand new wheel lift in it, there is an area in the back for a paint booth. It is completely wired and plumbed for an auto shop, including air lines, etc. It would be the perfect place to buy, work on, and flip these old trucks. It's on a 1 acre lot, with 4 lane frontage. I called the guy about it today.

It is a block building, office up front .. SWEET place. I'll post a picture as soon as I can. 24x80. I seriously doubt I'll get it but I am considering it. I absolutely HATE my job, and I just don't know how much longer I can hang on. I love to paint and do body work, .. I could take on nothing but older stuff, cleaning and detailing with my Pop and just general flipping of these trucks as well as Camaros, etc. My Dad could sell ice to an Eskimo. It is possible .. but unlikely. Still, I'm pretty stoked about it. I would sell both my trucks to get into something like this. (just a new start)

That sounds like a great idea. There are very few people that are legit nowdays so if you could run a good business and develop a great reputation I am sure that you could make a ton of $$$$. Good luck Chad!!!

Let me know when the GMC goes up for sale.
Love that truck!

Sounds like the perfect shop.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Just a twinkle in my eye at this point .. BUT, .. you never know. I still have a little to do on the GMC to make it right, but it's getting there. This place has been up for sale for a while now. I talked to the guy today and he sounded pretty anxious to sell it.

For now, it would just be searching out Craigslist and places for good solid SWB trucks and making a little on each one. Enough to pay the bills.. Then I would take on outside stuff. Frame swaps, putting them back together as daily drivers .. :D

We'll see what happens.

Man! Everything is coming together nicely over there. Good luck on the shop. That would be awesome! I know what'cha mean about wanting a change of pace. I agree about there not being enough people taking pride in their craft out there. Do good work and people will beat a path to your door.
