A little LST update. Man the pictures have been coming in from all the cool folks we met at LST. One of the below pics is from the photo shoot that the guys from Mach1media did. We had the front cross member maybe 1/2" off the ground at 50 MPH! Lucky that road was super smooth... But the pic is just so cool! There were two pics from friends that shot the truck on the lot, which was super cool of them to share it with me.
The pic with the car hauler behind the truck is our hotel in Conroe which a friend took. We had a blast there, and met so many great folks. It is amazing to me how our trucks bring people from such diverse back grounds together. The last one I have shared was a pic that a really cool guy (who I think was either doing the construction at the hotel we stayed at or was just headed to the show) either way he caught the truck in the parking lot of the hotel we crashed at the night of the ice storm. That truck is so grimy in that shot! 16 layers of crud on it!! But he posted it on the bagged board on Facebook while we were still crashed out from the long night drive. So why this is so interesting to me is that this hotel was way off the road tucked back in behind a couple strip malls. You would have had to had a helicopter to see where we parked the truck, but this cool guy saw it and snapped this shot. Just goes to show that no matter where you are at there are cool truck guys this world over! Stay tuned!;) |

I am very lucky because I have several folks that are going to help me get this rebuilt and making some killer hp! Case IH and Cummins shared an assembly line for many years building the B series motors. For those of you that don't know I am a Territory Sales Manager for Case IH. Because of this joint assembly line with the two companies we have some excellent technical know how in house and some really interesting parts because we used this motor in several different applications over the years. Should be fun!;) |

How many miles are on your engine currently? Is there an issue with the engine currently? I've worked on several high mileage ones and you'd be surprised what these will do at even 250k and higher. You could simply re gasket some stuff, do the typical mods, and get it in the truck. Then rebuild it this winter.

These are parent bore blocks and do not have sleeves. You will have to hone or bore to the correct size. I'd open up the piston to cylinder wall clearance a little more than OE specs too since you'll be boring and putting new pistons in. If you had low oil pressure issues, I'd be checking the rocker arm trunions and cam bore. These only have 1 cam bearing in them. The front journal behind the gear housing. The rest the cam rides right on the block. Also, I'd send your injection pump in and have it checked over too. It receives oil pressure from the engine and if it was ran low or out of oil can be very bad for it too.
To me, if your piston was seizing or scored the #6 cylinder, chances are the engine was over heated or someone had it cranked up pretty good and was not watching the pyro. If the oil pump was the culprit, you'd have bearing failure before that #6 cylinder has issues. I've seen this a lot on p-pump 12v's. |

Thanks for all the info. Just understand I have guys who are certified Cummins experts who do this stuff all the time, some of them are master mechanics and are experts in these engines. So whatever they say to do that is what is going to happen on this rebuild. Trust me when I say that having your Territory Manger mad at you is never a good thing so they know to do this job with 100% focus and attention to detail. I know my guys are going to give me the absolute best product possible. Plus we are all really good friends too, so that makes it fun. You should hear them every day asking when are they going to be able to start on it. They want to see it run almost worst than I do... So we shall see how this plays out. I'm very sure and confident that the guys I work with will take great care of me the whole way. |

Been a while since my last post. Basically the truck has been sitting while I have been busy doing honey do's, working on the 68, and other life activities.:lol:
So I am selling the 454 and the turbo 400 to my neighbor, and I wanted to get it out so I can start putting in the Cummins. I have possibly come across another Cummins too. The second engine is in a running vehicle, but it has a damaged trans which is ok because the first one I bought was just rebuilt and has a better converter. So if I can get my hands on it I will throw it in the truck and get it running, then I can build my first engine into a much stronger than stock unit. As you can see below I have pulled the grille assembly off so I can get the engine out easier. I plan on keeping it off until I get the Cummins placed in the engine bay. Keep your fingers crossed that this goes smoothly! I will update soon on my next steps. Stay tuned!;) |
