Got all the kinks worked out with the headlights. I had to remove the fancy halogen upgrade wire kit as the highbeams would not function correctly no matter what we did. Went back to the standard wire harness.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
More done over the past couple days.
Started out by tearing down my 800 mile L99 to delete the DOD/AFM and VVT, basically making it an LS3. http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3841.jpg All but the valve covers and coil packs was not reused, part of the deletion of the AFM and VVT stuff. http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3843.jpg After getting most of back together, I decided on some PRC springs, TSP cam, some Yella Terra Ultralite roller rockers. http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3844.jpg Got the new 4L70E buttoned up with the Circle D converter. http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3846.jpg And if you don't have one of these, money well spent IMO.. http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3847.jpg All sitting in the truck now on the PB stage 1 cross member. http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3853.jpg http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3854.jpg http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_3859.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Guess I got to 4 cab mount bolts from a full body off resto, thanks to certain parts needing replacement and restoration.
Wishbone stripping prior to cleanup. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psriglfm8r.jpg Truck as I left it tonight...... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psaqdnlzj8.jpg Some parts will need buying, many just cleanup and reassembly. This is fuuuuuun...!! :mm: |

One thing, I wish you guys lived down the street from me, you guys seem like a lot of fun and really enjoy these old trucks and I like the way you guys help each other out. If I had the time, space and money, I would own at least 10 more trucks from different years. |

Hopefully it will all make sense when it comes together... this is the 'headliner'. The door panels, safari rack and package tray will all follow same vibe. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...pscoymeddb.jpg |

I've had a tiki theme in mind for my truck too, but nothing this involved. All I have right now is a hula girl dash ornament and tiki keyring, heh. Edit: my tiki keyring: Attachment 1446417 |

Hi DLW Thank you for your kind words on my build and madness I am getting up to. I have learned so much up to now, and was saying to my friend Martin on Saturday when he came over, my mum and dad would have said I was completely crazy, but I think they would be quietly proud of what I get up to. I wish I knew more about motor mechanics and could rebuild a modern engine for my truck like you did. Have a good day. I am off to Portugal tomorrow morning till Friday night for work, so no truck time this week. Yesterday...... Harley was around my feet as usual, and later Mickey from next door came around for a cuppa tea and a chat. Still I cleaned, and cleaned. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssycefvc9.jpg After all the scraping, using a small home made hacksaw blade knife, I then grabbed the flap wheeled grinder and proceeded to debur all the wishbone edges, as well as dressing back the spindles that I had previously hammered mercilessly to remove the ball joints. Deburring is done so that once the paint goes on, you have less water or moisture traps to initiate rust under the painted surfaces. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psactbn5mw.jpg I then gave the parts, excluding the crossmember which got the pressure cleaner after the petrol wash a blast in the blasting cabinet to prepare them for paint. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psti1vt9hg.jpg Tonight after work, first coat of paint. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Got home from London tonight and got the suit and tie off as fast as I could, while Nicola made me a coffee, then straight down to the garage to get the paint onto the parts I cleaned up over the weekend.
First thing to do was figure where to paint, meet some hooks and tie spots on a supported scaffolding pole. You see, it's never as quick or easy as a few photos imply. Then mask up all the threads after cleaning them, again, as well as the holes where the ball joints will be pressed in. Then the first coat of paint. Simple black for most parts. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjz8z05qw.jpg Got the top and bottom wishbones and brake drum covers done as well as the steering rod. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjmgkjj3n.jpg Lastly the brake drums. Just gave them a heavy coat of 400'C VHT paint. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps9nyctg1p.jpg I am happy with the changes tonight. |
