Sheeesh thought this was the "Trucks Are Beautiful" thread... those Dodges have a face not even a mother could love.
I remember this coming up in another thread and it was a South America only deal. Dodge 6500 https://topworldauto.com/cars/dodge/...00/photos.html Love that yellow rollback though |

They went awful heavy on those new Dodg... I mean Rams.
I can't hate on a big Dodge truck. Nothing can be styled as nice as a GM in lighter trucks, and that carried through to their bigger trucks as well. But when you are talking beautiful and big trucks, beauty is only skin deep and we ain't talkin' pretty. Most Dodges ran Detroit diesels. I like that they kept the same cab for so long into the '60s. The latest trucks they built I don't recall ever seeing too many. They looked funky but I like the look now |

With trucks it's just sheet metal. It's what that sheet metal sets on that counts
|
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
They might not have been much to look at, but Dodge built some very decent heavy trucks back in the day.

Yep. Peterbilts go back a bit farther than you think, in a way. Kind of the same as GMC.
Let me find some other ugly trucklings . I'm serious. I don't mind looking at any of these |

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Nice group of Dodge heavy haulers! Thanks for sharing special-K. The concept of using a late 50's cab in the 70's really makes you wonder if we really needed all those short cycles of cab designs. I believe the heavy duty cab was used from '55-'75, and Dodge kept the newer pickup cab on light duties from '61 to '71.

Yeah, the '50s cab overlapped with the long running '60s cab, as well as continued the Town Wagons and Town Panels. It seemed in that era Dodge had it's own game plan with trucks. Less on style, more on function.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I've got to get out there! I saw that Walker electric truck in the background and wondered if it was one. Never seen that style but am aware of the early commercial electric vehicles.
And I didn't realize that KW offset cab picture I showed was from Iowa 80. there are a couple good museums close enough to here that I visit. Keystone tractor & Truck Museum in Colonial Heights, VA is one. He has quite a collection and it's growing. Divided between trucks and tractors. He has a huge tractor collection. Rare stuff www.keystonetractorworks.com Then there is Boyertown Museum in PA. it's located in the old Boyertown Bodyworks plant. It's cars and trucks, with the theme of Pennsylvania-based auto companies. There are out of staters, too, but I was impressed with how many cars companies were out of PA. www.boyertownmuseum.org |
