Got my shifter put in. Works great. Recieved my front air bags, made a home for one of them. Still have one to go.:metal: $15 in metal and about 2 hours cutting and grinding each .;)

Picked up a hoist from HF, sick of renting one. Got a 8 gal tank now I need to build a floor for it.:smoke:

Re: Daverods project 66

Nice work on the arms. You'll like having that much air with the 8gal tank.

think i need to mound some bags to the bedposts , will make life a lot eazier

daverod 03-28-2010 02:52 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

:lol:I ordered the top mounts for the bags from SD. I was going to make them but the ones from SD were cheap and easy.:smoke: I need to get some smaller tires for the front. The ones I have on there now are huge. They hit the cab.:sumo: ?I'm not sure what to do about engine mounts? I'm putting a 350 in it and I don't know if the stock 283 mounts will work? I think I have to move the engine forward so my dizzy will fit?:uhmk:

ruffrida2005 03-29-2010 12:39 AM

Re: Daverods project 66

all gen 1 chevy blocks are the same size and mount the same, My truck was a 283 and was swaped with a 350. I think it was mounted on the back holes, and my buddy dented the fire wall in to clear the valve covers when he owned the truck.

Painted the side of my 64 with some rattle can. Tried to make it look somwhat old. I'll paint the truck next year for real. I just want to get all the metel work done and still be able to drive it. Bought a metal floor for my air tank, still need to get stuff mounted.:uhmk: Weather here was sucking made me happy I had a heated garage.

It is snowing here again Dave-- And April fools day is tomorrow. We all need to be careful.
your garage has more room when your sled is not in the way.

daverod 03-31-2010 11:42 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

I just put my sled up for the year and got my dirt bike running. Maybe I should have waited a couple more weeks. Spent the day cleaning stuff and learning about how to fill air bags. Snowmachine hill climbs at Pebble creek this weekend. Always a good time.

Stupid question . Why does my engine have a bolt hole at the top for the trans., But the trans has no hole? Built a floor frame for the back. Going to put 3/16 metal over it.

Looking good .. What donated the fuel tank?? With the 3/16" steel for the floor of the bed, is it to be diamond plate or flat steel? I thought of rhino lining the floor of the bed and using plate steel also. Would add weight at least.
Used to be a thread on here about using a steel bed from a newer truck There may a spacing issue below the fenders where the thickness of the wood is no longer there.. Git'er done and take pictures.

I think the tank came out of a van. Fits good. I'm going to cover the top and sides in 3/16 plate. Metal place did have some diamond plate for .25 a pound.

Dang!
I've missed a ton!
Nice work!
For some reason I'm thinking the bell housing on the heavy duty granny 4 speed trans has a hole for that top threaded hole, maybe I'm just  ;)

Making some nice progress :metal:

Is there a reason you are wanting to use 3/16's? That's going to add some weight.....

Your truck really looks good, love the patina.

You might want to go with 10 guage (0.1345) or 12 gauge (0.1046)?

I want weight. I'm not going to have a wood bed. Maybe I will wrap the gas tank in somthing thinner.
