They're out there, I found a set about 7 years ago on eBay. An army surplus guy had a bunch of NOS ones. I have 2 left that I was holding onto but now that they are reproduced ....

Reproduced? I haven't found them in 6-lug. Would appreciate it if you knew where to get them. Tried Stockton wheel... cost quite a bit more than a pretty nice alloy.

Are those the 6.5" van wheel? I've been noticing those on a few trucks and really like the look.

I think we need to re-visit the difference between rally's and steel wheels (steelies).

Agreed , but the original post did say any kind of steel wheel , at least the interest in steel wheels keeps a 7 year old post alive!

Took me a long time to find 6-lug steelies. Finally got them powdered and installed. I know the caps aren't '70 but they're what I have.

VWNate1 03-11-2016 09:11 PM

? Who's on Steelies? ! ME !

It took me a while to find 6 original 6 lug 15" stock rims , I wanted 16" ers but apparently those are nowhere to be found .

I kept hitting Junk Yard after Junk Yard and finding one wheel here , another there , old mounted wheels and tires are a ' HAZ-MAT ' (means they have to pay to get rid of them) so they were always happy when I'd roll some 40 year old dry rotted tire / rusty wheel carcass up to the front and say " will you take $10 for this ? " .

It took me *much* longer to find hubcaps , a old member here had promised to sell me his that he didn't want but I don't see him here anymore =8-( .

I had to dig through dozens of crap filled junk boxes at swap meets , crawl under piles of crap etc.

I now have seven hub caps , maybe four are decent , all are painted glossy white and waiting for me to find someone who knows how to mask them off and paint the black and the bowtie blue again .

The body shop ' lost ' them until I gave him a week to ' find ' them or I'd bring in the Police .

A sad thing as this guy does amazing body and paint work but managed to screw up many things and returned my truck non running and in pieces .

I hope to get it running again when I retire this Summer , I want to work it and show it off too ! :chevy: .

Great looking GMC burb! (I've got the 66 version), your wheel/cap/tire combo look great. Curious about that rack, did you add that, where is it from?

Yeah, the original poster asked to see any type of steel wheel, but in the title asks for steelies. The problem isn't showing the rallyes, etc. The problem is calling them steelies. Steelies is a name given to old factory style wheels of the time, because they never had a name other than "wheel".
