Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Mark, I'll say it again, you guys are an inspiration.
I just sent this link to my buddy who is taking the 48 from me. He wants to do the paint and I've told him that if he follows your steps he can do it. |
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Kees, thanks but Dad has done a ton of work with the sanding and some polish I have been finish polish on most items and we will work together on assembly.

Just now saw the pics Mark posted on the finished buffing. Between the two of us we got the front end put back in place. Still have a lot of lining up stuff, then in can be tightened down. Here's a couple pics I took a little while ago...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Looks real nice Jim, especially the chrome grille. Did you add it during the repair? I see in your avatar that it was previously painted body color.

Back in the shop this morning, I installed the bumper and splash apron, then the hood latch panel. Don't have headlight bezels installed, will wait till we align the lights. Mark and I then went to the nursing home to be with Aggie when they give out candy for trick or treaters. Great Grandma got to hold here new great granddaughter (3 weeks old). Was a great night. Oh here's a few pics...Jim

Well, I had noticed that my brake pedal was down low to the floor, after checking Mark said I needed a new master cylinder. So this morning he installed the new unit and we bleed the brakes, everything good now.
After that I installed the running board, running board splash apron, etc on the pass. side of truck. I started on the drivers side, but still need to install the splash apron. Will do that tomorrow and take care of a few small things. Here's a couple pics...Jim |

Finished up the drivers side running board splash apron. Put the truck back on the ground. Reinstalled the door panels and garnish moldings. Now I have to get to sanding on the hood. Here's a couple pics...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
the colors on your truck are perfect! how you keep it clean I will never understand. I did a cream interior on on truck and the seat was dirty from looking at it.

Worked in the shop for a few hours today. I used a clay bar on the rear fenders, top rail of bed, rear of cab and a few other areas. Then I used the 3 step polish method on it. Came out nice, especially for a 15 year old paint job. Here's a couple pics...Jim

Mark and I brought up the hood to the shop today. Then I got to wet sanding with 1,000 and 1,500 paper. We had a little trash in paint so 1,000 knocked in down real quick. The 1,500 to smooth in out. Ready for 2,000 then 3,000, hopefully tomorrow. Here's a pic (nothing special)...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
A lot of handwork goes into good paint, this is going to get close to perfect!
Keep up the good work! As Doug said, the Chrome grill tops it off. I Personally like this better than the painted grill. Fantastic Roadster! |

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
I agree, the chrome grille was a nice addition Jim. Too bad you're going to get it done just in time for winter...
