Small update today… in between getting last minute details ready for our upcoming road trip…;) I was able to finally get some truck time in..:bann:

Got the roof of the cab and the windshield surround in primer, DA Sander died, got fed up with it and finished sanding about half the top by hand... I real dislike hand sanding areas that could be done with power tools… I also got the Grille support sanded, did I mention I really dislike sanding?:thud: Got the first coat of primer on the grille support and in the fun, I neglected to get a pic of it in primer...:dohh:

Anyway, here are some pics of today's progress...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

I almost forgot… after getting the painting done, I grabbed the DA and put it on the work bench…Hooked air up, it tried to work and stopped...:ack:
Took a deep breath, removed the pad, started cleaning and inspecting… Hooked air and again, little movement then stopped. Unhooked air, spun by hand, and watched it spin and stop abruptly… looked it the air exhaust hole and found an allen head screw that had backed out and spotted wear marks… grabbed an allen wrench, tightened it up, and the DA came back to life...:hot:
Note to self… check that screw before, during, and after use...:uhmk:
That's all for now guys… in a week we are out and about for a couple of weeks and heading east seeing friends in Tennessee, N. Carolina, then south, gonna make it as far south as Key West and then up to just south of Tampa to check out Muscle Car City… then over to visit the wife's grandparents in Sebring, then up to Alabama to see some friends, then home, then the following Saturday will be Clem's Get-together...:metal:

Truck looks good! Glad the sander came back to life! I agree, sanding by hand is horrible.. Have fun and be safe on your trip. See you at Clem's.

Love that primer. It makes all the ugliness go away and gives you hope that it will be in paint some day. Glad to hear you fixed your tool. Most people would throw it in the trash and go buy another.

I count that as a WIN!!!
Shows great character even when the cards or sander is down.
Now your ahead of me on truck building.
Be safe on the trip.

Have fun getting away. Truck progress is great, taking time to enjoy life can also be rewarding and provide great memories.

Don,
I realize that you hate to hand-sand, but did you know that I hand finished sanded EVERYTHING on the exterior of my truck?
It is the ONLY way to truly get a flat finish!
Good luck!

So just how much baggage allowance do you and Amanda have for spares?

Would have been nice to join you guys there for lunch.

And Don, trust you and Mrs Boss are going to have a wonderful time.

Travel safe.

I have booked an extra two cases so I now have 4x23kg hold allowance and 2x10kg cabin allowance . But last year I ended up paying to upgrade 2 cases to 32kg at a cost of $60 each.
