Other than drill/tap the column to accept factory bracket, were there any issues using the 'stock' brackets? Also, any issues or special parts going through the firewall? |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
So Momma goes to Butlins for a 4 day 70's themed weekend with her school reunion friends........
Where does that leave me?? TRUCK TIME !!! Passenger sill repair. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psslxbtpsy.jpg Got to say, with a further fine grind, some paint and the door seals, this will be just fine. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps75i83s2l.jpg Tomorrow I plan on cutting out the drivers kick panel, making up a patch panel and then welding that in, followed by welding up all the holes in the floor and various other places in the cab that should not be there. Then some rust converter and eventually paint. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Well, then I don't know what the deal is with the slots then. I know others have also had to drill and tap with theirs. Maybe they made some changes recently. I bought part number 1150650030 which is the retrofit column for the 60-66. I would rather of had the slotted one myself.
Definitely should meet up sometime since your just up the road.[/QUOTE] I ordered 1140650051 black powder coated colunm shift, you have right part# for brushed aium. wonder why no slots in yours?Yea when i get my mess straightened out and running again we should compare notes Ha Ha Im doing steering colunm, power steering ,700r4,getting rid of 3 speed and crossmembers,so probably in a month or so should be back on the road. Im 66 and dont move like I used to Ha Ha |

patch for the passenger floor.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2pi6dhtl.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgyirglnb.jpg Patch cut and made to fit. Then welded and ground back. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszhyl8l3r.jpg After this I marked, cut, fabricated and welded in a drivers sill panel. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnmoekef6.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnmw2jwsu.jpg It is actually better than the photo implies? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuyz6r1ka.jpg With failing light, I had opened up this bit of rust and made a repair panel, but walked away as the light was not bright at all. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssabhc8tm.jpg Tomorrow, Bootfair then carry on with the cab. |

Scrapped Crustine's old crappy no original seat and put in an original style seat from the same year. :metal: The 50 year old upholstery is in perrty good shape. Has been covered with 2 seat covers for 50 years. lol I like it much better! Will be putting a good seat cover on it though to help protect the rips in the upholstery. :gmc2:

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Installed a lot of the sheet metal, fenders, grill support, grill, hood hinges, hood bracket, everything but the hood and front bumper. Test fitted the Entropy radiator, looks like the top hose will be a challenge. Next is the sway bar, bumper and hood, then I start the brake and fuel lines, the accuair and tanks.

The thing for me was to just do something, anything at all on the truck to move forward. Sometimes I would look at it and see so much to do, I kept putting it off. Now, I try to do something almost everyday, even if I just stare at it until I figure out what direction to go with on the next part... |

I got frustrated last spring and found me a 66 to use as a driver, so I could settle down and work on the 62 at a better pace... After work I go in the garage almost every evening and try to do something to keep going forward. Got the engine and tranny back in it about a month ago. let it run for a few minutes. then went to the steering and found problems, best thing that has happened recently for the 62 is finding that Captainfab is making a kit that should help me get the steering box mount straightened out. It was changed to PS before I got it but not done well. Sometimes I just scroll through the pics I've taken to remember how much has really been accomplished. Don't think it will ever look like yours, but it will be a much nicer ride when I get it out next time. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Not a lot to be honest.
Went out to see a movie (The Martian) with Nicola tonight. Got a text from mate Martin while in there that my cutout pipes and the Flanges my secret benefactor had cut for me were now welded up and ready for collection from Colin at the Checkers Pub in Hoo St Werburgh. So I drove by on the way home from the movies and traded a pack of Spitfire beers for the cutouts and dropped off a length of 16A three core cable fo Martin to wire his new compressor into the mains as it is not happy with the 13A it's been fed. Got home and had to take a couple of bad pics of what I now have, HAPPY HAPPY. THE ANTI-SOCIAL THUGGERY WILL HAPPEN. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnczbkvqs.jpg 340ml beer can on the 2.5" connectors just for perspective of size of these outlets. Did I mention that I was very pleased ? I do love the neatness of well done Tig welding. Once polished and cleaned they will be stashed for later use. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshqzjczj4.jpg |

Hi!
Still working on the tanks. Running two hard 3/8 stainless fuel line from back of truck to front, working on a boxed in X frame is fun, I swear! Flex lines will connect hard lines to tanks. I plan to box in the rear section of frame before welding in new cross members. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Had a bit of a rough day at work, so got home and cut the grass, I find this very therapeutic, and then went to the garage, dragged what's left of the truck out onto the drive at 6.30pm and used the rust converter I bought last week.
On Saturday morning early the cab is being rolled off, so I guess in the end this has become a "body off" job. Never intended to go this far, did I mention this before? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa1euak4q.jpg Let's hope the weather holds out for Saturday. |
