And this is the 1st thing I've painted since 1998....so I'm thrilled with the results and I have no paint shop. Just been picking good weather days and staying about 98% trash free. Maybe its beginners luck.....again. And I've been debating painting my roof white like yours....just not sure if it'll fit this build or not. I think it looks great on yours though. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Truck is really comming together man! Since you re sprayed the paint match is perfect. Hope everything works out great with the bed. Can't wait to see it all together. Keep up the good work amigo!:ito:

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks! I know it's not factory paint option but I wanted something different to break up the blue. It would look good on yours especially with the wide whites. It's good you didn't get trash in the paint not having a booth. I too did't get much trash in the paint my problem was the light and the gun wasn't set right. I have waves in mine from the gun spraying to fine and I didn't see it until I rolled it outside. I'm planning on respraying it again someday, I just don't want to do all the prep work again.

Moved the hood up under the barn yesterday. Will be my project for the week. Hoping to have it ready for paint by next weekend. I do have some minor work to do on the front corners.

I can give you the paint code I'm using if I haven't already done it. I like the PPG paints personally. |

You can see the grass I sprayed In hah. It was neer 3 foot Tall. I just knocked it down with a board and rope under my boot with my buddy. Just like how you make crop circles to mess with the farmers. :) |

If it gets the job done with decent results I say roll with it. I use a lot of plywood too, but I place paper over it if I'm painting on top so trash doesn't blow up off of it. As you can tell, a freshly washed off later worked great for the grill support. I use 40lb fishing line to keep it tied in place....and washed off saw horses for the fenders.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Color match looks good as everybody has said. When i bought my paint (2gal) i was going to put both in a 5gal bucket and mix it together, just to make sure both gals would be the same. Never did it lol--but it's the only way to make sure it's the same. my outdoor booth worked ok like yours too! Looking better every post.

I have seen trucks painted inside that don't hold a finish to my outdoor paint project. People always seem so shocked to see it was painted outside. Hell, the whole trucks been built under the carport. Fleetside will be done in the barn though. But, I think the finish speaks for itself.... |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
The respray came out great. As TJ said, almost 1 color! :metal:

Not much progress last night. Was a late night off from work. Did get the vintage bug screen in. Its not an OEM GM part, but it is a vintage early 60's aftermarket and American made.

Also got the passenger side cast iron mirror arm and head ready to install. Door is marked, just need to drill and mount.
Went ahead and showed the markings cast in the bottom for the die hard gurus. These numbers don't mean much to me, but I know a lot of the purist keep up with stuff like that and since the passenger side arms rarely come up figured I'd document it. |

And finally the tank cover that I've spent two days trying to fold right. And a week with boxes on top to get flat as it came rolled up. Does clean it up quite a bit.
If I had to do it again I would source a siding brake to make the top line straight. I'm not unhappy with it, but did sustain a 1" tear at the top center where the fuel sending unit wire comes through. Best I could get it to look and it'll stay. Have considered getting some speaker carpet and covering it......50/50. I looked at all the factory pics in the thread on these and they show the tabs on the back of the cab facing down. I took mine and ran them up the cab. I just think it looks better. This one didn't come out bad, but a straighter fold would have eliminated the wavy line. |

Next two pics are April 2009.... a year from today when I started the resto....and last two are from where it sits today. |

I am looking forward to the 348 build also. I've always wanted to do a 348 short fleet bbw and now I have most of the pieces needed. Looks like I even found the last piece of the 1960 trim to complete the set also!!! So stay tuned for that one. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
lol. Yeah, I got my 66 some 9 years ago in 2006 and it wasn't until 2011 when I started working on it...and now 4 years later and finally actually restoring it this summer after 4 years of driving it and tinkering around. Funny I didn't find this forum until 2 years of playing with that thing. lol And I can't believe its already been 2 years since I got my 64 chevy parts rig.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Mine was a daily driver from 2009 until may of last year. Been driving a 63 on and off since I was 15. And that was over 20 years ago....sure do miss being behind the wheel, but the time is coming.

Someone asked me about how far down the headers I used hung below the frame, but I can't find the thread....so I'll post it here. These headers would not be ideal for a lowered truck. I show 4 1/2" below the frame with the lowest point being the header collector/ reducer. Heres a pic to help. Don't mind the exhaust looking slanted....I have not completed the exhaust yet and the 1st set of pipes leading to the x pipe are just resting inside the butt clamps

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Well I was 15 last year. haha! 20 years ago I wasn't eve around yet.
