Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Hi Don, I'm just about to start prepping my bonnet (sorry hood:lol:) for paint, what are you using for stands? I had thought of a couple of saw horses with a couple of planks across the top but curious what you are doing. BTW the inside of the cab looks killer, great colour combo

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Looking good! What did you use to clean the bolts like that?

Great progress Don. I cannot wait for the day I get to spray the underseal on the underside of my hood. Pleasure re. The UK "Redneck flag" The Cross of St George bears a lot of value here in the UK, glad I could find you one. Found you another neat "England" flag yesterday at Bootfair, still in its packaging. Then you should have a full set for the garage. It's the one to the right with the Lion in the pic. Not bad for 20p or 30 cents ehhh? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psovrwok12.jpg |

A little more accomplished today…
Started out removing the tailgate, tailgate chains and spare tire carrier… Spare tire carrier needs to be modified to accept 5x5 lug pattern… https://farm1.staticflickr.com/496/2...f2172858_c.jpgIMG_4661 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Tailgate is in really good shape, just needs a touch of work above the "R" ;) https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3760/...f5141f0c_c.jpgIMG_4660 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Next up, with the help of my Bro-in-law, we flipped the hood and prior to beginning the sanding I drilled the mounting holes for the '56 Chevy Car Hood Ornament...:uhmk: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5621/...582219ba_c.jpgIMG_4662 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://farm1.staticflickr.com/365/2...2832df14_c.jpgIMG_4664 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr all drilled and mounted… https://farm1.staticflickr.com/541/2...dea5d15a_c.jpgIMG_4665 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://farm1.staticflickr.com/464/2...32851d3d_c.jpgIMG_4666 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr The curve under the front of the ornament fits the hood lines real well, although at the back, that mount sits up off the hood, will address that issue once the hood is painted...:mm: https://farm1.staticflickr.com/509/2...89487215_c.jpgIMG_4667 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Later in the day, once the shade had settled in I prepped the rear fenders for some mud… https://farm1.staticflickr.com/301/2...7a2b00fc_c.jpgIMG_4670 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://farm1.staticflickr.com/467/2...2865c89a_c.jpgIMG_4672 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Next up… Lotsa sanding on the bed and hood...:sumo: Laterz...:chevy: |

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

I like the hood ornament, are you leaving the hood as is on the outside or painting it ? |

Gotta paint the bonnet, it is mostly primer, that bit of color is just where I shot some w/o prepping just to illustrate the color with the ornament in place… and most of that has peeled or flaked off due to no prep work...:haha: Quote:
My ornament was a Flea Bay score for $30… :uhmk: You are going to have some stooped heavy cases on the return flight... |

Not one to let good reusable metal go to the scrapyard, parts of the frame were re-purposed as stands, one is where the tailgate awaits work, and the other is currently holding bags of soil for some tree planting scheduled for cooler weather…;) A friend of mine re-purposed parts of his trampoline frame as an awning for his shop, I thought that was a cool idea, so I saved the pieces and came up with the stands thus far… who knows what the remainder will become? |

I cannot believe how good the hood ornament looks and how well it fits the hood :metal:
Infact I love it so much I've bought one myself, also from eBay and also $30 + $15 shipping to the UK, although with a shorter tail than yours, I just hope it fits as well Attachment 1433152 |

This is true. I now have one on watch on EBay....... Always loved them, but price seemed a bit steep for a shiny one, so I will have to just go with a used and pitted one, and hopefully get it re chromed etc. Thanks Don!! PS. Nicola said I could have one. |

Gotta hit a Pick N Pull this morning with the Son in Law, but will be searching for a P/S box and Booster for the 72... ;). Thanx CaptFab for the info... :metal: that will make the hunting easier |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
The hunt was rather productive, see my '72 thread...:mm: and my son-in-law was able to get the bits he needed for their car...
gotta head back to retrieve a P/S Pump with V-belt pulley from the same donor, seems my brain-dead self neglected to grab the Pulley removal tool on the way out this morning…:dohh: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
I did start sanding on the hood this evening, although no pics yet...:waah:

Didn't get any sanding done today...:waah:
too dang hot to do much, so the lovely wife and I and JoJo decided the pool was the best bet…;) I had planned on some sanding this evening, but got sidetracked on the spare tire carrier… Since I have 5 lugs all the way around, I am planning on cutting the end off an old axle that was unusable…but in the middle of starting that process, the boy called… https://farm1.staticflickr.com/439/1...d09cd2b4_c.jpgIMG_4728 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://farm1.staticflickr.com/406/1...05f1ca9d_c.jpgIMG_4729 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr the call resulted in this, something is missing now... https://farm1.staticflickr.com/381/2...d12e10da_c.jpgIMG_4730 by Donald Olivo, on Flickr So as long as all goes as planned, these will be ordered tomorrow...:metal: |
