LOL!!!!!! People are funny! I just got back from getting the new tires on. The dude that pulled my truck in the shop comes in the waiting room and goes "that's a pretty sweet truck you got there, what motors in it?"

I said "it's a 5.3."

He goes "oh, you mean a 5.0? That's what, a 305?"

I say "no, a 5.3."

He looks at me and the only thing he says this time is "5.7?"

Again I say "no, a 5.3 liter, out of an 06 Silverado."

And then, he actually said it. I have been WAITING for this moment ever since I started this swap...... "Oh, a Vortec motor? I don't think that motor will work in a truck that year. Those are computer controlled and everything."

So, needless to say, when I went out in the shop and opened the hood, it was like a bunch of bees swarming a packed picnic basket! And I will admit it, my chest was a little inflated. :D Lots of ohs and ahs and how did you do this and that. It was pretty cool!

I got that all the time when I had my 67 Chevelle that I transplanted an LT1 & 4L60E from a 93 Z/28 into. I would tell people it was an LT1 and they would assume I meant the 70 Z/28 solid lifter engine not the modern EFI engine.

It was fun to mess with the "mechanics" who knew everything.

Yeah, when I go places in my '79 CJ and someone asks what engine is in it and I answer a 302, I always get, "you mean a 304, right?". I just answer, "Nope, a fuel injected 302...you know, out of a Mustang". Then they usually want to see, 'cause they think I'm full of it. It does feel awesome when they have to eat crow.

You're truck is coming along GREAT!!!

My uncle always put 350's in his streetrods. Never failed someone would ask what kind of motor was in it. He would say 350, and they would say "these didn't come with that." Sad part is auto parts stores would do that too. One guy at O'Reilly asked him if he was sure he knew what he was talking about. I would have loved to been there for that lesson!

I'm waiting for that day at the parts store too! It's GOING to happen, it's just a matter of when! And I'm just the type of guy to be like "come on, you mean you've NEVER heard of an 85 with a 5.3L???" :haha:

Thanks Ed!!

Well, the bumper deal is a flop. The eBay seller emailed me that the bumper is not in as good of condition as they thought was (?)it . They offered me a Suburban bumper at half the price of what I paid, or a refund. So I took the refund. However, I might have the burb buckets sold, so if that happens, I'll just order a new one with brackets.

:banghead: Stupid people! This is a perfect time to point out what I put in my signature a couple weeks ago. Sorry to hear that.

OK, as my wife always says, the "Nauta Luck" shines through again! Yesterday, member beckers67 PM'd me with a link to a Craigslist ad for several Chevy bumpers in Northern Colorado that was posted on the Wyoming CL site. One of them was a 73-80 sport bumper, with outside brackets only. $25! It in VERY nice driver condition!

I got it on, and pushed it about 1" closer to the body. Also got the tailpipes straightened out and the tips reinstalled nice and straight and equal.

It looks awesome on there! My Broncos are playing right now, so I'll run out at halftime and get some pics.

So, to recap.... find a bumper on eBay for just over $150 shipped. Sell my step bumper to coworker for $150. Get refund from Ebayer for bumper being not as advertised. Find very nice bumper 2 days later for $20.

Oh, and yesterday my son: bought a steering wheel/pedal set for his PS2 off of Craigslist for $25 after talking them down from $30. We get home and find that it doesn't work. Call seller to tell her we will be back tomorrow for a refund. Find a new ad on CL this morning for the same set, but newer, for $10! And it works!

And to top it off, my wife doesn't work weekends anymore!!

Great weekend all around!

Dang you Bob! Was there another one in that listing? I have my big one sold as soon as I find a sport bumper. Looks nice on there too all tucked in. And...your Broncos pulled another one out of their...;)

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Pulled it out my a$$, that was flat out a good ball game! Better team won, simple as that! :D Your team is what, 3-2??

That was the only sport he had. He had a couple of fronts, and a Luverne rear step, and something else I didn't recognize.

Dennis - sending as many good vibes as I can brother!!

I will say 5 words. 49ers will do it soon. Ok enough out of the peanut gallery. It was a good game and I truely am impressed by what they have done this year. And the bumper looks great as I said.

I mix & match parts so much on my vehicles that I keep a notebook for each rig that lists what vintage all the parts are and what they came off of for reference.

Looks like you have an earlier bumper. Mine is the smoother profile and came off a mid 80's Suburban.

Too bad we're 1000 miles apart I would swap you bumpers.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

The earlier one is the one I actually wanted. I never likes the way the later ones extended so far forward after they wrapped around the bed.

I have a laminated piece of paper to throw in the glove box too. Some day I'll forget what came from where and end up going postal! 78, 85, 87, 91 burb, 91 C1500, 06.......

Thanks! Now I need the snow to melt and dry up so I can get him outside so I can see what it REALLY looks like on there!

How much snow have you got so far?

glock35ipsc 10-13-2009 09:48 AM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Woke up to 8" Saturday morning, but other than what's hiding in the shaded areas now, it's all melted.

It just keeps raining and raining and raining here. I haven't driven Bob in about 2 weeks because of the weather.

The bumper looks really good on there. That is the one I was looking to put on mine.
