Got to work on mine some tonight. After I spent most of the time lookin' for what I needed. Since I haven't worked on it in a while I couldn't remember where everything was. But, it finally came to me. Got the column back in and the steering shaft in. Not much but it's progress. Damn that thing needs a bath. |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Looks good Alan. I would almost trade you an original automatic column for your's. If I ever get any free time from work and football practice I try to ride up and see what how the truck is coming along.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Check this out. The wife wanted a new dinning room table. Couldn't afford it so we painted the old maple/white table. Still in work. She stained the top and I touched up with the airbrush and used my paint gun to spray polyurethane. She is happy so far. They really turn out good.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Put new serpentine belt on and finish up the power steering hoses except for the fancy clamps.
http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...C/DSC00824.jpg Vintage Air condensor http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...C/DSC00826.jpg Removed cross bars http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...C/DSC00827.jpg Put grill and hood stricker on to check for clearance behind. It is a tight area where the fittings will be. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...C/DSC00828.jpg http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...C/DSC00829.jpg Spaced it up a little. I lowered it a little since I took this pic. I plan on reusing the crossbars and modify them to mount the condensor. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...C/DSC00830.jpg |

Re: My 1965 build thread
:metal: That Vintage Air stuff is beautiful. Nothing like a massive condenser.
The compressor is very compact - the one out of my Chevelle, along with its torch-cut mounting bracket, weighed as much as a VW engine! I'd love to go with your set-up in my car, if it's adaptable to the 290 horse Chevy crate 350. Mac. :chevy: |

Re: My 1965 build thread
On one of the Studebakers I did it was really tight, and had no room for a mechanicle fan. I had to use 2 electric fan's. One in front and a puller behind the radiator. It worked good, and didn't over heat.

That's a sweet install, Dennis! I've got to do that with my "Blue.":chevy:

Re: My 1965 build thread
Alan, How close are you to wanting to install the hood latch? I am asking because I was working on my truck yesterday and I got from the pull-it-yard the setup from a Camaro and it looks like it is just about a bolt in affair with maybe having to make just a little bracket here or there. With that setup you can actually have the hood release in the truck without having it able to be opened from the outside. Just a thought if you are interested.
Awesome truck, everytime I see that color it looks better! |

I just got a quote back from the web guy. To set up an e-commerce forum based web site he wants $2000. There's no way I could afford to do it. I don't even know if the price is in line. Quote:

Now we need to discuss my shame, my sickness: I have to over-complicate things and I have to put that original transmission hump air conditioner "cabinet" back in my car and run the cold air ventilation through that unit, rather than using the vents supplied with the kits. Is this doable? Or should I spend some more money on special therapy? Mac. :waah: |
Re: My 1965 build thread
I will try to get some mockup pictures done today. Hopefully that will show you what I am talking about. Stand by!

http://www.summersmotors.co.uk/image...nditioning.jpg What I'm taking about is where the evaporator and blower are located: The metal box that covers them. I have one - that's absolutely classic - black wrinkle finish with really cool chrome vents - that even swivel! Can I conceivably adapt this to the Vintage Air system so I can have this sixties accessory in my car's interior? Or, would a sedative be more practical? Mac. |
