hey Bob, what did you do to supply vaccum for the vent thingys to work.... did you just put a T on the booster vaccum source?
thanks in advaced,,, I know I said I was going to start a build thread to quit hackjacking this thread , i will have to start one soon.. since I am probably going to do the air suspension next,, and might need some help

Mine were all hooked up and working already, so I didn't change anything. It's raining buckets right now, otherwise I would go out and take some pics for you. I can tomorrow if you still need the info. And/or I can make a quick diagram for you too.

maybe I just got confused.... I thought after the swap that somehow somewhere the vacuum for the modulators was remove, I guess I will try and see they work tomorrow,,, I would do it now,, but the spurs are playing... lol... and I am also researching how those boss 338 I ordered are going to fit with the backspacing Iam a little worry...

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH, it just hit me! The vacuum line to the engine! :banghead: LOL! On the passenger side of the intake, toward the top and about center, there is a vacuum port there. It doesn't look like it at first because it has a plastic "bar" running across it to block it off. You need to cut or break that bar off to open the port up.

You can see it in this pic, I wish I could draw an arrow on it, but can't on this laptop.

Here you go. The rain let up and the dog needed to pee, so I went to the shop and pulled the cover off and got a cell phone pic while the dog did his business. You can kind of see the vacuum hose run under the wire harness then go up to the tee at the firewall.

Bob,
Sorry I missed your reply :dohh: I am tearing apart my 72' C10 for paint, updating my interior, adding a transcooler, well you get the idea a TON of stuff. I just thought if you were in the area it would cool to have you check out the garage... I understand if you need to get back home though. :metal: Now back to your build, I will quit mucking it up!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

No problem, ask away!

Fred thought he was a 4x4 yesterday. I had to drive him for a couple of reasons. But he lost the fight against the rain that could float Noah's Ark, and the stretch of our road that has no gravel. I got stuck DEEP on the way out yesterday morning. Luck for me, the neighbor was right behind me and went back and got his truck and pulled me out. It took about an 1/8 of a mile before he was able to suck Fred out of the ditch (all the while carving a foot deep trench!) :whine: I was able to get out using the less traveled back road.

Then on the way home I took the same back road, and it took 7 freaking tries to get up a little hill that was covered in about 8" of greasy goose sh!t. I finally got a run at it, shot Fred off into the pasture, and made it up.

It's gonna take a good 3 hours to get all the mud cleaned out of the underside. It's caked on THICK!! :haha:

Oh man it's THICK!! I'll probably have to put a 45° bend in my pressure washer wand and put the truck up on my tallest jack stand just to get most of it!

LOL, I'm not sure even a posi would have even helped. This is 100 year old wheat farm land. The top soil is like flour, then imagine adding several inches of water. I've had my 70 K10 stuck in this crap before too!

I guess that would be pretty bad, but you probably could have made the hill a lot easier at least. We are suppose to be getting that storm here tomorrow...there sayin' it's going to be a doozy.

Yesterday, all at the same time, northern Colorado was under a severe thunderstorm warning, a winter storm warning, and a tornado warning. And at the time they all came out, it was blue sky and sunshine here at work. But before the day was over, all three events happened at one place or another around the state!

When time allows! But at least it's getting warmer..... oh, wait. That's right. Rain check on that. Oh, wait, it's still raining. Ugh!

Now that I have A/C I might be tempted to drive him more often this summer, so that might be the winter project.

Bob I need your help again. Now that you've done the ac. What size is the fitting from the evaporator to compressor ? And also the one. From condensor to compressor ? That and to figure out how/where to hook a fan to is all I need to get mine going and not BBQ my self with this 100+ temps in the summer here lol

OK, so there are three different lines:

#1 evaporator to the condenser
#2 accumulator to the compressor
#3 condenser to the compressor

So,

#1 - This is an aluminum line that you can reuse from the old setup. If you don't have one, or if the one you have is damaged, you will find a part number for it in the link below and where to order one. These are #6 fittings, so they will need new #6 o-rings.

#2 - The accumulator end is a #12 90* fitting (for a #10 hose). The compressor end is a #10 45* fitting. Use a #10 hose.

#3 - The condenser end is a #8 90* fitting. The compressor end is also a #8 90* fitting. Use a 8# hose.

Here is a complete parts list from getting mine setup and running:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...44&postcount=1

Fan - are you going to run electric fans, or a mechanical fan? Did Jesse/W4M do you harness? I don't remember.

Regardless, if you are going electric, there should be wires coming off near the PCM for electric fans if that's the route you are going. I believe the wires for an electric fan are ground signals, so you would need to run 12v battery power to a relay, and use the ground wire to trigger it.

Here is what the fan connector looks like. I left the fan wiring in mine in case I decided to run electric ans later on. But since I've decided to stay with the mechanical I'll probably cut them out. There are two wires: one for low fan speed, and one for high fan speed. Since my engine came with the electric fans, I am just guessing that "low" is one fan one, and "high" is both fans on.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

thanks Bob those fitting size's will help.... as far as the fan deal goes,,,, I re worked my own harness, and I have both "low and high" fans so the pcm controls the fans according to the temp of the coolant..... but I was thinking that the low fan comes on and off when the a/c is on regardless of the temp of the coolant,,, so I was thinking of adding another relay but, I dont know where to get the trigger signal from in the a/c system..\

also.. looks like Fred is in need of some Major help right now....

glock35ipsc 04-24-2010 03:33 PM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I don't have my A/C wired through the PCM at all, so I don't know how to set that up. But if you just need a signal to tell the relay when to come one, just tee a wire off of the gre compressor wire.

Fred is a little happier after about an hour with the pressure washer. But I'm going to have to pull the plastic shields off of the gas tanks, there is mud PACKED between them and the tanks. I think I'll pull the bed too, that crap is packed everywhere.

Nah, but he could use a taller sibling!

Doesn't he already have a taller, older sibling? Goldie.
Maybe they both need a taller, much younger sibling.

Be easy on Freddy Bob! LOL! That chassis is a MUD magnet!

On my 87' I drilled 6-8 2" holes for drainage. Lost a Tank to rusting out cause the trapped mud!

Question. Did you ever get the temp sender for the dash working?

I going with Auto Metter gauges, and found 12mm Adapter and Sending Unit to work with the rear passenger water hole. I just ordered the parts today,

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I think I will pull the bed off this weekend just to get everything else cleaned up. I need to anyhow just to put the vents on the gas tanks.

That is the same hole I used for the temp sender. The original adapter I bought from S&P was a POS, so a fellow board member made me a couple that are the bomb:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1253821496

With the POS adapter from S&P:

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/P1010167.jpg

They work great! I had a small leak from the beginning, it seeped between the adapter and the sending unit, and it would drip onto the manifold. Not really a big problem, but man oh man burnt antifreeze stinks bad! So when I was finishing up the A/C I pulled the adapter out and used pipe dope between the sending unit and adapter, and between the adapter and the head. No leaks now! :metal:

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

That's Nice! Better for your swap, since your using stock gauges! Yeah the sh*t stinks! I have weak lungs, and never been as sick from anything like burnt anti-freeze!

Bob now that you told me where to connect the vaccum source for the a/c modulators, where is the line to the modulators at the engine bay?

got the sanden compressor installed with the kwikperf. brackets on... went to the vintage air which is local for me here in san antonio, and they didnt have the oem fittings I needed, but when there I met a guy that has a a/c shop and made me two a/c lines with fittings for 50.00 so I guess it wasnt so bad.... just need to hook up the vaccum so I can adjust where the air comes out in the cab,,, cold air in the feet is not the best place to have air coming out , around here in south tx anyways... hot hot hot...

That's a good price, you did good.

The first pic shows where the line runs into the cab. It's to the right of the box (looking at the firewall) that the evaporator is in. It is a solid plastic line, not a rubber vacuum line (on mine anyhow).

The second pic just shows the three different vacuum lines: yellow is from the "tee" and runs to the inside of the cab, light blue is from the vacuum port on the intake manifold, and green is to the vacuum canister on the drivers side.

I should get a price for Highjacking and soon the most questions on this thread..lol I know I keep saying I am gonna start my own, but I know how you guys like pics and since I dont take many, it would be a very boring thread lol,,,,,,,,,,,,, thanksss... that vacuum canister is for the cruise isn't?

by the way.. it good to have a/c now,,, and it s*ck , that just mowed the yard at 90 degrees weather, and peeps are talking about how "nice" the days have been...
