Re: 1968
Wow, your truck is looking great. I am a high school teacher and am finishing up my spring break here in indiana. Not much of a spring if you ask me. I too am stuck outside with my build and the march snow is putting a damper on my plans!!!
Quick question. My next task is changing out my rusty old trailing arms. The only parts I'm missing are the u-bolts as I had to cut them off due to rust. Any IDEa where I can get the right set of ubolts?? Thanks and good luck finishing her up. I'll be watching |

Today I mounted the cowl and adjusted the body lines on the two fender with the cowl
http://i.imgur.com/OEvTsm4l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qT0Do5Ol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hrN9Ep2l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4HOfVvxl.jpg As you can see I bumped the paint off on the door edge. I will have to repaint the door again. no big thing though. I hope to mount the hood back on the truck. Then all my parts to the body will be back on the truck. What is the easiest way to adjust the hood. I will start the bed supports next. I will have to spot weld the bed supports and then remove the frame and weld them together solid. I am planing on raising my bed 5 inches. |

Re: 1968
George buy some green paint tape and line all the edges, it will help keep the paint chips from happening.

Re: 1968
Looks great George! My work has kept me real busy lately, and moving to the new house. I'm glad to see you're still at it! Turn a bolt or two for me. I love the orange, too!

Tomorrow I hope to mount the hood. I need to get my friend over and help me.

Re: 1968
Today I mounted the hood and somewhat adjusted the hood. I installed the hood stops also. Ran into some difficulty adjusting it so I stopped. It was starting to get me upset so I thought I better walk away before I made a mess of it. It closes real nice but the drivers side is a litter high on the front and back. I think the front can be adjusted with the hood stop. but don't know about the back of the hood.
http://i.imgur.com/Ra1Mhygl.jpg Then I installed both turn signal housing on the front of the truck. That was the easiest thing I did today. http://i.imgur.com/Lrt8NEel.jpg Then I mounted the 15'' chrome over flow tank. I wished I bought the 13'' instead of the 15'' it would have gave me a litter more room on the bottom of the tank to attach the lines. Take note guys sometimes bigger is not better. http://i.imgur.com/WdoV72vl.jpg Then I mounted the 105 amp chrome alt. But my big red wire is not long enough to reach the battery. So I will have to make me a jumper lead from a terminal block to the battery. If I had my alt on the pass side it would have been long enough. http://i.imgur.com/HSDacW5l.jpg looks like things are coming together now. I had to remove the e brake cable and run it underneath the steering shaft and clamp it to the inter fender. now it don't move around. It don't rub on the shaft like anymore. It looked clean until I took the picture it shows all the dust in the engine compartment. http://i.imgur.com/RZ0WlKll.jpg |
Re: 1968
i bet you are getting exited to fire that thing up soon!

Re: 1968
Can you loosen the hood hinges and rotate the back of the hood down to help bring the hood down a tad? I had to do this on my truck and it helped but I'm still learning and may have done it wrong . You're moving right along as usual George and your truck looks great.

the reason you should use frog tape it does not lift the paint so much. blue or green will work. |

I didn't do much on the old girl. We had friends down from Boston, Ma. and we spent the time with them. But tomorrow I will get back at it again. |

Re: 1968
At the car paint store, they sell a 3M tape that's 3x thick and not as sticky especially for assembly. Not cheap, but it works good!

Mustard, low elco, super C10 tex
I never tried 3M tape guys so I can't knock the product. I have used blue or green painters tape and it work. I have to double it up though. twice the tape is still cheaper. I did not get to work on the old girl today. I had to do some electrical wiring for my daughter. Got to do a little honey to do list for her. Isn't kids wonderful? |

Today I tried to install the windshield but failed. But I did install the rear glass. I would like to have both but, at least it was a wash out as far as the glass goes.

Re: 1968
I hurt my back trying to install the windshield, so that' s why I stopped. got to look at some more video's on installing that thing. But now I have to wait for a few days to let my back heal.

Today I had a Dr's appointment for my back. After I got back I installed the turn signal switch level. I for got to install it when I put it together. Then I mounted the radiator cover and painted the sides of the truck under the hood black. They were orange and they just didn't look right. Now they all match the engine compartment. What do you guys think. Then I fished the dome light through the opening for the light. Tomorrow I will mount the grill whoops and front turn signal lens and other lens.
Let it snow only kidding guys. |
