Those caps look awesome!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Those caps look sweet, I must say I might be on the prowl for some air craft remover now.
Today on my rig I installed a new heater switch and fuse. Happy to have heat again! Also put new bulbs behind heater switches so it lights up again. Bough some brake shoes and a spring kit. Plan on putting that all in tomorrow. Last week I also rewired my door speakers so that my sound is coming out the doors as well as from the truck riders under the seats. Now after an oil change, brake job, and maybe a new exhaust, I may be ready to put her up for sale. That will be a sad day... but anyways, that's what I did to my truck today! Tomorrow maybe aircraft remover! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I ran the vacuum advance line from my carb to my new HEI dizzy and put in a valve cover grommet. That's all I got.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Gonna get the heater controls back in right after I look at the high fan speed relay this weekend. Had to repair a broken arm on the defrost control lever. Wasn't to bad. Bought it on 12-26 and haven't drove it for 2 weeks. Just been to busy with work and gets dark way to early.

New PUI door panels and OER arm rest/door pulls. Going back in black replacing original but red painted split panels and pulls. I liked the older look, so didn't do '71 panels.

I installed my fire extinguisher. Fit pretty good on my seat rail. Attached it with stretchable fabric and velcro so it releases quickly and is easy to grab. I also took her out for a nice cruise and filled her up with gas.

Replaced my rubber fuel line with a braided one. Also organized my spark plug wires a little bit with some of those fancy-shmanzy wire separators. I just don't like them touching valve covers and headers....

I know we have threads on this, but I'm interested in doing it while the truck is sitting on jacks in the garage. During my build, I didn't shorten the column (crash sliding bar). I have the tank in the cab. And, I had late model buckets in at first. Now, with the bench seat, it's too snug in there for me. Yeah, I could lose some weight. I keep trying..... Right now I have the column dropped in the cab and the dash out for a amp:volt gauge changeover. So, I figured this would be a good time to get some more er, "tummy room". -Did you shorten it while the column was still attached to the rag joint? -Did you move the reverse switch to the engine side of the fire wall? -If you pulled the whole column to do the mod, how tough was it to get to the bolts on the rag joint from underneath? Thanks. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Well..I finally put a 7 qt Moroso oil pan on my stroker. Only had to remove engine mount bolts, tranny mount, and drive shaft, then lift and move it all toward the rear 2 inches so the pan would fit...wow!!

I pulled the column out and cut 2 inches out. I did this 4 inches before the nut switch mine is not working anyway. I used a pipe cutter for nice straight cuts and cut the shaft with a cut off wheel. I then ground the ends almost to a point and used a piece of angle to hold everything straight to weld it back up. I will post a pic tomorrow. It does give a lot more room but I would not go more often Han 2 inches as it makes the steering wheel closer to the seat. I do have a grant 13.5 inch wheel on it |

Cut the roof and cab back off my 68 C30 and a donor cab today. Hopefully get them both cleaned up tomorrow and welded back together. Hang the doors back in place and maybe get started getting her running next.
Sounds easy, right, ????? We'll see. :waah: |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Finally found some 8mm HEI plugs wires that fit. Needed the long ones for a 75 Corvette 350. Also mocked up the fuel line to the carb. Getting closer.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Installed a cd player, adjusted the lifters, cleaned the valve covers, installed new valve cover gaskets, replaced 2 "u" joints, topped it off with non-ethanol-premium, Drove it like I stole it.
