I am still beat, went to the birthday party of the guy I bought the truck from in 74, that was good times. I stopped at the Goodguys show I wanted to attend yesterday with my son. :( Anyway, got home and did some parts documenting, cracks me up the stuff I find when I do this.
But check out this photo shopped picture a guy did for me on another forum. This IS my truck that is in my mind, this has fired me up big time, HOLY CRAP that is my truck right there! How friggin cool is that! Brian |

Wired in my turn signal unit. I really love these old-timey levers, and the illuminated handle means I don't need to install separate indicators.

Installed the wiper linkage, shaved cowl and wiper bezels. The glass guy called today so we set up a time for him to come out and install the windshield and back glass. I’m going to hold off installing the fenders and hood until the glass is in. There’s plenty to do in the meantime...

I got out there and changed the flapper valves and oil in my compressor, it does sound better. But damn if they didn't give me the proper valves, the most important one was correct so that's cool, but the other that I welded wasn't right. It's the upper piece that simply stops the flapper from flipping off breaking. So I am thinking it will be ok.
I also went through another box doing my parts inventory and I can't believe the stuff I find that I forget I had. This is literally scary, not joking, my mom died of Alzheimer's, this isn't fun. I just went through this one box a few months ago. The last box I went through there were two glove box doors, one kinda nice and I thought ok, I will be doing that one. I open up this box and wrapped up in foam sheets there is a flawless, rechromed glove box door! And fully perfectly polished upper and lower center dash grille mouldings! Geeez, I a bunch more stuff that I remembered but had totally forgotten I had this glove box door. Brian |

Completed all my lights, the relay I ordered was faulty but I found one in the garage and made it work.
Messed around with the AC wiring, finished mounting all the grounds and mocked up the relays. Had the wife help me determine that I am going to extend the ECM wiring and mount it under the seat. Mounted the AC vents to only find I don’t like them and need to start from scratch. Also found more rust to fix. |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Missed work today to spent the day at the hospital with my son getting a preliminary surgery on his foot. After getting home I got the rest of the parts inventoried, whooo hoooooo

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Wired my ignition switch, then disassembled the harness to re-route all the starter/alternator wires over to the right side of the firewall.
Tomorrow I have to figure out how to raise this truck off the ground to run wires on the frame. Now that I have the front bumper and running boards on, it's too low for a floor jack to go underneath, and of course it doesn't run yet so I can't roll it up on a block to gain clearance. Hmmm....:smoke: |

DAAAAAAMN that's beautiful!
I was able to get out to the garage and do some not so romantic hot rod building stuff, spent an hour and a half laying under the cab with a propane torch and gasket scraper scraping underseal off the underside of the floor. :sumo: But I got something done! I got a few more things on ebay, one is such a bummer. I have this absolutely beautiful 1957 JC Higgins bike girls bike. I restored it about 30 years ago, rechromed everything, it still looks like new. It was sand blasted and painted with automotive grade paint (of course) reupholstered the seat, the whole nine yards, it's just beautiful. Bummer is, it's worthless! I have listed it a few times on Craigslist and ebay the price as been coming down and down. I took a photo of it to the local antique stores and got no after no. Finally a real cool guy spent a bunch of time with me walking me through what to do, and basically I have to about give it away. I put it back on craigslist and ebay for $100. Brian |

Wired in my high-beam indicator, horn button, speedo reset button and cigarette lighter receptacle. I'm trying to use existing holes and not drill any new ones.

Well Tuesday I got some bad news about my ticker, so on the 14th I'm scheduled for exploratory of my heart... start by going in from a vein in my arm to see what is needed and then fix whatever they find... so I'm in a hurry to get some stuff taken care of like the window relay and one piece up and down relays, not a lot of people that understand this heavy use of relays just in case things don't go well. If they do go well I'll take the time to clean it up afterwards...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Hope all goes well. Usually a simple procedure and can save you.
I understand and use relays for about anything that draws amps. Thought about power windows for mine but old fashioned. Said this before but recently gave neighbor a ride in mine and watched as they moved crank back and forth to try to lower window. Astounded look on their face when they realized they needed to turn it all the way around to make it work. (never saw a crank window before) |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I put power windows in my truck back in 1979. When I think of stuff like this I can't believe I understood it. I was 19 and I had a 63 Buick Wildcat that I was parting out. It had power windows, I took the two regulators and I took the truck regulators and cut the arm off them. I then welded the truck arm onto the Buick regulator measuring out the exact same distance from the center of the pivot points. I then installed the regulator with the pivot point in the exact location as the original one in the truck door and wham, power windows! No alignment issues nothing, bolted them in and done.

I got my firewall stripped today WHOOO HOOOOO! :metal:
I have to tell you, these abrasive wheels I get from our vender at work are friggin awesome! I will get the brand and part number, couldn't find it on the net. But I did the whole firewall with ONE. I stripped the large flat areas with a hog and 36 grit, then went over all of it and getting all the edges of body lines and all that with one of these wheels. It started out as big as the large one in the photo and the little one is what I had left, it did a hell of a job. And what's neat is as it gets smaller it does things it wouldn't do when it was big so it's a win win with it even wearing out. Brian |

I made a bracket to mount my brake light switch onto the pedal assembly. Waiting for the paint to dry, then will install it tomorrow.

https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/nor...SABEgIF0fD_BwE I used them to strip all the paint from all the large panels on my truck. They work great, last a long time and don't fling plastic shrapnel at you like many of these type products do. |

They look the same but different, could very well be identical with just a different mandrel but they are different. And not only that but I have available to me many different sizes. See how one of the large ones has no center on it, you can wear that down to almost nothing and even have a round thing at the end to go into small recessed areas, it's pretty neat. And the thin one, that's only about a quarter inch.

On my lunch break, wow that beat me up, but I got the cab all cleaned up. A few welds here and there and a little sand blasting hopefully tonight, but tomorrow at the latest, and it's gunna get primed. Brian |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Wow, that looks good Brian! I have some of those discs and I don’t remember where they came from. Blue ones too...maybe for aluminum, just don’t remember.
