Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I was racking my brains out trying to figure out how to make the door handles work with the stock door latches. The handles work with a up and down action, and the latches push in. I guess this is the easyest way and safer too. I installed Bear Claw Latches. I'm not done with it yet. I still have to add sheetmetal in the low spots, and make it look stock. Also I have to make the linkage to connect the handle to the latch. It's going to work great. And I didn't go nutz. Or more Nutz than I already am. :uhmk:

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
wasnt it possible to mount the latches upside down left to right , if im correct that wouldve made them push operated , dunno if they still would lock though as the horseshoe thingy grabbing the post would be on the bottom of the latch

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I tried everything I could think of, and it just wouldn't work. Besides the Bear Claws are a safer latch, and works a lot smoother.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I picked up the 51 Project truck yesterday. It came with 4 doors, 4 extra fenders, 2 extra bed sides, extra dash, and a ton of other stuff. I want to make the truck complete, and sell the extra parts. It has a Camero front clip, SBC with disc brakes, P/B, P/S and a Camero tilt column, and a 12 bolt rear end. After I sort things, I'll figure out the prices. Like I need more work. :banghead::dohh:

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I need your opinion.
Should I use the Centerline wheels from the 51 on the 65, or keep the Cragers? If I use the Centerline's I'll polish them and add knock off's. The Centerlines are all 15", while the Cragers are 15" and 16", and the look of the hoops don't match. |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Nice score Dennis!!
I keep waiting for the day when that style of truck will follow me home . Like I need more projects. :chevy: |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
u suck. I would love a 50's truck. I would do 22" centerline. And lay it on the ground.:metal::metal: What are your plans?

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Congrats on the 51............I think. J/K We always need another project. ;)

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
It's for sale. I have it listed on Craigs List for $1,900 as a complete truck, but I'll take less. Make an offer and it can be yours.
I'm helping our friend sell it. Her ex husband that she was living with again passed away from a heart attack, and stuck her with all the bills in her name. He bought the truck with all the extra parts and thought he would build it. What a joke, he didn't even know how to weld, or do anything that needed to be done. He was a Carpenter. We are helping her sell everything of his. I got 13 Franklin Mint Corvettes, and some 55-57 Chevys from her in the box for $20 each. She had about 100 more. I wish I bought more. The rest of them went to her Grand Son. I got them just in time. I did get a heavy duty compressor, and some other good stuff that she gave me for helping her with her Estate Sale. She wanted only $1,100 for a 89 Ford F-350 dually with lots of stuff on it including a Diesel with a 5 speed. I put it on Craigs List for $3,500, and got $3,200. She was so happy. All the extra parts will be mine to sell. The main thing is to help her out. |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Sooo back to the question. Centerline wheels or Cragers??? :sumo:
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Cragars are my choice.
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
The Centerlines will look like this after they are polished, only with a spinner.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I am a fan of the Cragars but I really like the Center Lines on the trucks.
This is the only pic I could find tonight, I'll get a better one tomorrow. http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/2...2407833.th.jpg |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Centerlines get my vote

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Don't do the monster drop like everyone else.... seriously...
Low stance with the matched wheels you have.. the hot rod look. Dare to be different. |

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I guess I am just old and out of date.
I haven't seen one truck on the site that has, what I would call, a hot rod stance. There sure are a bunch of flat on the pavement trucks on the site. I'm probably just looking at the wrong trucks. I guess I am just one of those oddballs that hates to do what everyone else is doing. I do love the 50's trucks however anyone does them. |

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Nice looking car...
I haven't thought like a 30 or 40 year old for a long time. :) Too long... But I like a bit higher stance, and for what I am building in regard to my hotrod truck build that I haven't started, the suspension to get them that low wont likely be stable enough for a 140 mph 1/4 miler... But like I said, I am old and unfortunately, slow to change. |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I have a son that's 40. He keeps me on the ball, and up to date. :metal:
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
my son is 30 and I am constantly telling him to stop telling I'm old
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Then don't act old. Slam that truck.:metal: :haha::haha::haha:
