Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the bed wood all channeled and fit. I think it will look pretty good when it's done. 3 coats of Pelucid(POR15) and then three coats of Helmsman Spar Urethane and she will be back on the road!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Been dinking with the qjet for months trying to get it to run right because I wanted to keep the truck original. Finally broke down and put a edelbrock on today kind of disapointing but it does run sweet.

Wanted to get to the shop to do some wiring. But I got a call from the polisher that the grill bezel was done. It was a wreck. $275 was steep, but what craftsmanship at Imperial Polishing in Fresno. Then, at almost the same time, I got a call back from a guy in Merced that was selling my new bench seat. Thanks, Armando. He said he knows you, Rene. In fact, I think he said that a part of my new seat was at your place at one time, and that you suggested the A****er Upholsterer that did the nice job.
The part on the seat is the Vintage Air firewall hose pass-through that I took to check the color compatibility. It's a Kirker color called Black Cherry Perarl. I am using it under the hood. But in the middle of the night last night, I woke up thinking about the painter/body work hassles I've had in the past. And the strange attitude and business sense that seems to want to attach itself to that artful profession. It drives me nutz. So, I'm going to paint the inside of the cab with this stuff myself, wait for the right body guy to do the body work and real paint outside. At least I'll have a truck to drive in the interim. I ordered another 6 qts of the Black Cherry. I did make it to the shop to confirm that the new lights/dizzy/horn harness was set up EXACTLY correctly. Another thumbs up to ECE. |

More paint. We budgeted for paint and body work, but many other little parts broke the bank. I've done this before, so I should have known that it's always a heat-sink for dough.
Sometimes twenty bucks (fifty bucks... or three hundred bucks) at a time. So, some Kirker Black Cherry Ultra went on the interior earlier in the week. The paint's cheap.... and I guess it kind-of sucks. But Orchard supply hardware black epoxy primer first, then paint as soon as the primer flashes....Suck or not, it works well enough for the rat-rod for now. And there's a certain non-monetary pleasurable aspect to doing it myself. Today might be the last of the 70 degree days this year, so I sprayed the interior of the doors (they're off the cab and have had the body work done..NOT by me ), and a second shot around the windshield frame so I don't have to mask it up to the rubber when I finally DO shoot the outside. In the meantime, it's black primer on all the outside sheet metal, and Black Cherry "where the sun don't shine". Which reminds me, I also shot B.C. under the hood. A big day in the yard and shop. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Unfortunately, I sold my truck today. Well, technically yesterday. I hate when grown up priorities (buying a house) take precedence!!! Fortunately, the truck stayed in the family so I'll always know where to find it....

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Checked on the status of my fuel cell made by fuelcellguy, should ship soon. Also, called about parts trucks that I bought and they should be resting at my workshop this weekend, thanks to my father and a good friend. Cant wait to get home on R&R and get some work done. Oh yeah, this week also ordered a rear disc brake conversion set for the new rear end and decided which rims will be outfitting Project Heaven in the near future... Shes coming along quiet well!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I ordered tie rod sleeves for my '69, needed the adapter sleeves to hook every thing up to the later model disc brakes that I put on it, those should about do it for parts to get it on the road, I'm excited about that, I'm ready to drive it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Scored a set of complete doors, a new windshield and a tail gate for my recently acquired 69 C20 so it is now a complete truck.
Now all I need is the time to put the thing together and a place to do the work that is not out in the snow. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Pulled it back home when it wouldn't run anymore.... foundout that my electric fuel pump had stopped working :m6:

Some days are just more rough than others. I had a rough one today. It's all about paint. I sprayed the interior of the doors and left them in the "sun" all propped up and tacky on the back of the utility trailer. While I slept, the daughter and son-in-law's dog decided that the trailer was a good place to lick my paint. He licked, or rubbed, or whatever else, until he ruined the paint on both of them. Maybe it's a blessing of sorts, since the paint didn't lay down very well on the jams, anyway. Then, I fought with the steering wheel mod for a couple of hours. I think I've got that one....Now to figure out "how to" on the horn with that custom set up. Yesterday, when I did what I thought was the final mock up on the completed dash, I found a run down the upper-right side of the dash bezel. I sanded that today, and repainted it in gloss black...a nice contrast with the flat I used on the inside portion. I was happy with it. Until I mocked it up for the final-final. Yup! I found another earlier run that I missed the first time. I left the shop, came home and made a cup of coffee and took a nap. Tomorrow's another day. |
