Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Sanding, disassembly and more sanding!
Ordered my dual master cylinder conversion along with new brake lines, tube bender and flaring tool. For the engine I have new rings, cam and lifters, oil pump and gasket set. Pretty much clears out the bank account but gives me plenty to do. Will be starting a build post soon. John 66 Chevy C20 |

A wonderful day.. A trip to the alignment rack where things went perfect on the 71 front end which I put in last year
Attachment 620541 Attachment 620542 A stop at DMV for registration and plates.. A call to my agent for Insurance.. And when it quits raining this evening... A short road trip!! I did crack a molar tooth today that will need a crown . BUT it was a truly happy day!!!! Finally getting close after a year and a few months of rebuilding and replacing. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I got my dash board parts and put in the lights and the glove box door bushings. It all fits real well. I also put in the vents and cables. With all the powder coating on the interior parts it is looking very nice and new. I got my brake hubs and seat rails back from powder coating.
I decided to invert the new fuse box and run the wires out the top rather than bend them around from the bottom. That means the writing is upside down but it seems a much better fit to go out the firewall hole. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Started radiusing the bed rails. I saw this idea here on our forum and decided to give it a try. I am using long radius 1-1/2" pipe elbows.
I need to fit-up a short piece of 1-1/2" pipe now to continue the rounded edge on over to the tail gate, then patch the hole from the original stock tailgate latch. Then weld everything up. The radius looks good 'cause it is visually similar to the fender radius... makes it look like something GM should have done, back in the day, IMHO. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well, it wasn't today, but I traded the truck away to a buddy. Turns out I wanted to use it as a truck-truck, when it is more suited as a show/cruising-truck. Felt bad throwing stuff in the bed, scratching up the painted rails and such.
I'm kinda a more-door kind of guy anyway, the Bel Air is what I traded for. Needs a small block and a 700R4, but it's pretty cool. My buddy did the bags, panel paint work and the stripes before he traded me. I'm thinking of getting another 64-66 to use as a daily/hauler, but only with a static drop. |

The front rails: From my perspective it is a "visual flow" thing. The back of the cab is flat, so the rails look fine in the front. But in the rear the fenders have large rounded edges, and the radiused rails just seem right. I will probably finish these next week, maybe... life has a way of getting in the way of my hot rod projects... if you know what I mean. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
That's going to be sharp when you're finished. I want a gas pump for the garage too, I've been looking for a 1958-62 model but have not found one yet. Also all theh extra $$ are going into the truck for now, unless I come across a real steal.
I got just the spot for it. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Thanks jbgroby. I have been collecting and restoring these for over 20 years now. I love these old pumps as much as these old trucks, LOL. They are alot of fun to restore and really add that extra touch to a shop or garage like you are talking about.
