Very cool truck - everything about it. Really dig the camper, lettering and particularly the racing discs. Once common, they're hardly ever seen anymore. Looks like it drove right out of 1965.

i hear ya, dam recession...if i had a job already, mine could be painted sooner...anyway, when the time comes i will be debating between a regular base/flat clear or the Hot Rod Flatz...i wish i could see in person or find pics of a vehicle done in the Tropical Turquoise Hot rod Flatz

Here is my 2cents on hot rod flatz-- they use crappy material, that's why it's cheap, and it won't last over time. They don't do anything to make the satin that you can't do with high quality paint and actually get a better result and make your own custom colors with flakes, pearls, and metallics that kick the asses of their stock colors, and still be reasonable in price. i paint for a living so i know a little- go with base coat of your choice, buy some flattening agent for your clear, do some test panels to determine your preferred sheen. The key to satin paint is to really stir the flattener well into the clear and keep it agitated because most flatteners are made with silicone or wax, so you don't want it mixed unevenly, you will get mottled funky looking paint, which happens with hot rod flatz, who knows how long it sits and seperates before you try spaying it? ok i'll get off my soap box, just wanted to steer you away from using inferior stuff on your prized ride!!

when I bought my truck,it had one of those wrap around back bumpers..It was all tweaked ,so I tossed it away, and put a steel stock style bumper.
Nice looking truck geezer99.

BC weather should agree with it..Ontario weather doesn't..LOL

It remains an exquisite looking truck. What are your plans for it? Any changes, or just leave it as is.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Not sure. My left brain says rally wheels and different bumper and maybe color change to red.
My right brain says leave it alone. Only original once. The color is growing on me.
We'll see.

That's a nice Stepside. If it were up to me, (and it's not) I'd consider a new set of repro hubcaps in chrome, or paint up the ones that are on it. Letter up the tailgate letters and drive it! I even like the bumper. All the better to tow a Scotty with it. That truck is done!

jonzcustomshop 05-10-2010 10:07 PM

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

if thats original paint, I would leave it, its only original once... the original style step bumper would look better, but the one thats on it dosen't look bad, and if you switch the wheels , don't get rid of the originals.

Well after all it is your truck, but IMO it's perfect the way it is a nice original truck. You can always buy a beater and hot rod it or customize it the way you want. I for one vote original lets put it this way don't listen to your left brain your right brain is right. Good Luck....Vernski:no::bling2:

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

OK. The right brain is the winner. No color change. It appears to have been repainted sometime in the past. Might freshen the paint and change the back bumper. Some new caps or white spoke wheels and drive the wheels off it. LOL!!!

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

I would leave it stock..change the bumper..and add small hub caps..Forget the spoke wheels..
and drive the wheels off it !!

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

I just got it in March and have had a bunch of trouble keeping it on the road. There was a bunch of cobbled stuff in this thing. Primarily wiring, which melted on me twice and now I am rewiring the whole thing. I also had the rear axle out of it I had to rebuild it. I had to upgrade the master cylinder to a dual because it was converted to front disc before I got it but they didn't think that was necessary. It also had a booster on it that didn't work so I eliminated it. It had a set of bucket seats that were so close to the steering wheel I could barely get in so I changed those out to some seats from the third row of a Montana van. It has been more work than I wanted to do to it right after buying it but It will better for it in the long run.

EVBuilder what's the story on the spotlight's are they real one's or dummys. I like your truck the color is nice. I have a 65 custom lwb fleet the wiring was a nightmare had to replace it front to back the wires ran along the frame were rotted and the taillight's had bad grounds to top it off. Anyway mine is in my avitar that's the way she looked when I first bought it, still not done a ways to go yet....Vernski:gmc2:

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

The spot lights are dummy's, unfortunately There are holes for the screws or they would already be gone. There was a number of things the PO did to this truck that I am systematically removing or undoing. The diamond plate mud flaps for example are gone now as are all the skull knobs, skull inside rear view mirror, and skull license plate frames. I replaced the mirror with the one that goes to my 62 Tempest. I was shocked to see pictures of trucks with the same mirror. They must have been pretty universal back then. I am doing something a little different with the wiring in mine. I took the under hood fuse and relay center from a 99 Montana van. I also have a seat glide. I am making a drawer for the fuse box to mount into the glove box. that way I can slide it out far enough to get to the back of it for any future additions to the system. This fuse box has a head light relay in it already as well two electric fan relays which I am using from the same van. It also has 6 main line fuses that I can use to power the ignition and the original fuse box and have a main fuse to avoid any more fires. I may start a build thread on that as things start to shape up as many people are intimidated by electrical work.

markeb01 05-11-2010 04:39 PM

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Nice truck. I like your idea of mounting the fuse panel where it can be reached. Not mounting mine in the glove box area is one of the few regrets I have with my truck. I'm old now with a bad back and knees, and wish mine was located where it could be reached by sitting in the passenger seat.

I hope you took before pictures when it had all that junk on it. Nice to have them for comparison after it's fixed the way you like it.
