Hummer, yuk! LOL, I like that bolt-on tracks though. There are a couple rigs where we snowmobile that use those - an older Wagoneer and a Burb. I prefer our Thiokol at the sheriffs dept.

Did I mention how nice it is to have A/C again???

Yeah, the track setup is a sweet deal. I've seen them in action, and they work awesome! I can't remember where, it might be Jackson Hole, WY.... but the is a fire department that has a set they put on one of their ambulances in the winter.

I think it would look awesome. IMO the 88+ clip is played out and looks weird to me on these trucks. I'm finishing up the parts gathering to put a 76 clip on my K5 and it has the normal 87 clip. Just my preference I guess, my father had three of these trucks (73-80) and his last one is my '78. That might have something to do with it.

I'm just a "later hater" though.....;)

Whats up with the trailing arm swap??

That's been put on the back burner for a winter project. I don't want any down time, 'cause I want to drive it this summer!

Then again, it was 79°-80° yesterday, and I drove home with the A/C on, loving it! Woke up this morning to this  :

5" of snow at 6am, all of it melted off by noon. And it was sunny and nice the rest of the day, mid 50's. Only now the wind is blowing. I hate wind! I would go nuts with no snow.

nice plate,,, I want to get me a personalized plate but still working out the last few a/c bugs...

Bob I installed the a/c hoses coming out of the evaporator ,but the bottom hose going to the condensor, fitting is tightened, the hose-fitting combination seems to "move around" at the evaporator end,,,
I think maybe just maybe, it broke some how when the swap was done, the guy that did my a/c lines said, I could take off the evaporator and he could weld another end to it, or I could just buy another evaporator for around the 150.00 mark.... what do you guys think? should I tried to get it fix, or should I just spend the cash be on the safeside and buy the new one? thanks for the input......

The "hose" you have running from the evap core to the condenser, you are using the OE aluminum hard line, correct? The fitting on the evaporator is solid, the swivel fitting is on the hard line. So if nothing is obviously broken or cracked, I would say it sounds like maybe the o-ring diameter is too small, or the o-ring is missing all together.

If that is not the problem, have him, or whoever is going to charge the system, pull a vacuum on the system and see if they can detect a suction sound and pinpoint the leak.

A new evap core from Rockauto.com is under $100. Advance Auto has them for about $85.

Hey Bob...been a while since I got on and actually read. Glad to hear the a/c is working out well. And the temp sensor too! The snow picture made me chuckle a bit. I had to drive my truck to work that day cause the Civic is "taking a break". Good thing it didn't really stick here in town. Just got pretty slushy, which sucked I might add. 2wd trucks+really low+sloppy slush=not easy to drive.

Hopefully we can get together sometime soon. I got an "itch" to do some work with ya.

I am not using the oem line cuz I had a new one made just because....

so I after installing the "new" line,, its thight in the condensor side, but when tight on the evaporator side,, you can take the hose and turn it and the whole fitting swivels with the new hose... I thought that was kind of weird, so when the fitting is thight, is it supposed to swivel? if it is I am good, I thought that once the line was tightned it would stop the swiveling,

thanks for all the help....
go SPURS go !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it rubber or aluminum tube? Personally, I wouldn't run rubber hose on that one.

No, it should not swivel at all when it's tight. That's what made me think that the o-ring is too small or missing. I meant the fittings that swivel should be on the line, not on the evap.

BBQing in cheap.... free actually. Loosing 36oz of refrigerant and oil and blowing a hose isn't cheap. :D

ACDelco part number 15-33071. Here is one for $34.37:

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Bob what about the orifice tube? where is your located at?

I bought the new evap, installed, only to find out that the fitting was "different" and it wouldnt fit into the inline orifice tube fitting.. so thinking that I didnt get the right one, I took it off and returned... but now that I think about it, doesnt the orfice tube "lock" into the evaporator line in the oem style.... thinking about now,, i think my truck had a "repair" kit with a compression fitting on the evap. and a inline orifice tube... d*mn,, I have to go back and get the evap. again and install it again.

on a good note.. the tire shop called .. the chrome 338 are here...
:ennyd:

glock35ipsc 05-04-2010 03:57 PM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

The orifice tube goes into the evaporator, lower fitting (inlet), and the end with the small screen goes into the evap first.

What year is your truck again?

84, OK, should be the same as mine then. This is the only pic
I have of the line , but you can see the aluminum line, the red cap on the R134A conversion fitting, then the fitting on the line at the evap.

thanks for all the help!!!!! I did manage to install the hose and install the evaporator twice lol, and the orfice tube and as I was about to start doing the a/c recharge the tire shop called that they needed me there, right away,, so it was either do the a/c or pick up my set of new shoes... what do you think I choose?

Hey Bob,

What ever happened to being able to run E85 in "Fred'? I'm getting ready to start my swap and remembered at one time you were going to do that.

glock35ipsc 05-13-2010 09:41 AM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I still plan on it, but a little later on. It's a $500 add on, and I just haven't put it in the budget yet. I have some house things to fix, and we are expanding our gym to include some outdoor equipment, so I'm spending some cash elsewhere right now. But I still plan on doing it. :D

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

That will be cool Bob, are you going to run a sensor for the E85 then? Or is your PCM already a Flex Fuel VIN?

glock35ipsc 05-13-2010 11:28 AM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I'll be using an add-on unit from this place: http://www.ffie85.com/

A friend of mine that builds drag engines, and specializes in building fuel systems for them to run E85 and E98, has used one of those kits on his truck for many years with very good results.
