Re: 1971 c10 stepside

so is the 25-1/4" measurement from the second bed mount to the centerline on the axle still a good reference for a stepside bed??.i havent test fit my bed,its still apart....now i'm worried,my notch is a small bolt in style so are these issues only with the big step notch??didnt mean to hijack this thread but i am worried..

Small notches can be affected also.
Take your springs out and set your stepside bed on.
Then check to see if the wheel is centered in the rear stepside fenders.
Member BucksSS is dealing with this now.

Yep, but mine isn't bagged it's static dropped 6" in the rear. It was noticeable when I had the 15" wheels on it and then magnified 1000% when I put the 22s on. Seems like it is about 1" + or - a .250" too far back in the wheel well. I am working with a board member to secure a trailing arm crossmember that will move the pick up point forward 1.25" in the chassis. I hope that is the answer. :banghead:

This is the measurement that we came up with. Lolife helped us determine this along with a couple others just to confirm. It is always a good idea to mock up your components and body parts to confirm the measurement yourself. I am confident that this measurement is "good". But it's always best to measure twice and cut once. ;)

Keep in mind that some of the body tolerance specs from GM on these trucks are + or - 1"!!!!!! That's enough to drive anybody with a tape measure crazy!!! Even more reason to measure and confirm.

im back at it again , lots of cutting and grinding last nite , boy i could've used a plasma last nite , i removed the factory trailing arm perches , also removed the cnotch and took 2 1/2 inches off to start , i want to leave a little extra room as i would like to have a second set of rally wheels , next i neet ti do a small cnotch on each side of the bed for the rear end to travel , i will post pix and detail measurements as i go ,

It was cool to see you yesterday. Next time we will plan it so to have more time.
I looked at the car lot on the way out and slowed down... The wife said keep it moving. There is a reason I stay off of car lots. Lol
