Good eye, yes it is!

Mike suggested it because the Vintage Air came with an aluminum bracket but the other side, the alternator side would have been steel and he knows I'm kinda anal so I'd want it to match side to side.

At the beginning I was asking him about for serpentine drive suggestions and he said the nicest one was from VA but is like $3,000 - that was NEVER going to happen so I asked him to think of less expensive ways that would still be attractive. Using the factory aluminum stuff polished on the outside with the recessed parts painted flat black is what we came up with.

Does anyone know if chrome plating adheres to aluminum well or is a problem? I ask because polishing means hand RE-polishing. I don't mind doing some but I wonder how long I'll be willing to do that, ha ha.

Dan, looking good. I wish my mine were progressing along as quickly as yours. After all, we're not getting any younger. Had to show my recent addition - just to make ME feel better! ;)

Ooh...that's beeootiful. I LIKE it! I keep telling myself I can live with out quite so much bling...but I also know after I have the truck done for awhile I'm going to want to do more of it.

Whose serpentine system are you using?

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

Bling is so over rated .... lol

So Dan where are the coils and plug wires going to be located and routed ?

What F.I. System are you using ?

So far it "rooks marvolis " (in my best Recardo Montavon accent).

Dan in Pasadena 03-02-2017 07:38 PM

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

The coil packs will be located on the underside of the toeboard mostly not visible from above unless of course you're really looking for them!

After much discussion the fuel injection system is the Holly HP Dominator system. A little pricey but Mike gave me a screaming good price because he wanted to have experience installing & programming it.

Cost a little more upfront but should save me in the long run every time I need an idle adjustment or shift point changes, or any kind of minor adjustment it's not gonna cost money to go get it put on the software at the dynamometer. (It will also readily accept re-programming for turbocharging if I ever decide to do that later.)

Thanks for the reply .

Turbo charging !? Your truck will only weigh around 3500# with little traction , more power will only cost you tires lol

Very true and I'll likely NOT do it. My truck as currently set up should make about 400hp and maybe 450 ft lbs. But I guess I like knowing I could. Ha ha.

Go back through my thread and Mike has a '57 TF in his shop that's an LQ4 6.0 like mine but it's twin turbo'd and the owner had him set it up to put out 1000 hp!! I can't wait to hear that started.

I just went back through your thread looking for what your using for the rear suspension.

It looks like just leaf springs and a lowering block. If so you may have a nasty wheel hop problem as the springs wind up.

The rearend is flipped on top of the springs and the frame is C notched. We will install traction bars BUT the truth is I won't ever race it. It'll never run the 1/4 mile. I'll stick my foot in it a few time to entertain myself but I'm no Ricky Racer.

I'm no ricky racer either, BUT I don't want any wheel hop either so I used the NoLimit Fat Bar rear suspension with the Currie 9" .

Dan did you check out the MARCH Performance belts systems? they are pretty nice and somewhat reasonably priced. looking good tho!

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

No I didn't. By the time we're to that decision I wanted to save some. Money spent I went with the Holley system only a few hundred bucks- which was still more than I'd have preferred!

Flysocal 03-03-2017 05:59 PM

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

I would have gone with the Holley kit as well but with ADs you gotta notch the inner fenders so I decided against. Will the accessory drive require inner fender mods? BTW I like everything

Dan in Pasadena 03-03-2017 07:37 PM

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

Nope, no modifications required. I'd have used the truck brackets but the Vintage Air AC bracket is aluminum i wanted o polish to match the compressor. Wouldn't have looked acceptable (to me) wit hthe opposite side holdingthe alternator made of steel and painted or chromed. I'll get both polished and clear anodized later.

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

Dan, was there no way to use the factory a/c compressor location or did you want it up on top? Just trying to picture my drivetrain in place and wondering if i need to plan on moving that.

Mark

Dan in Pasadena 03-04-2017 11:30 PM

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

Sorry, we didn't try to use the factory AC compressors because I bought the Vintage Air kit and their compressor bracket mounts it up top. I wanted the chrome compressor so i suppose its just as well it's up there.

On my 5.3 the factory air compressor fits in my NoLimit Wide Ride IFS crossmember and the Sanderson headers fit just right.

Since I got my NoLimit IFS they changed the cross member and it has even more room for the comp.

We have COLOR!!!

http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...psv6b0n5ul.jpg

No, this actually isn't my color! Well partially it is. The firewall is sprayed with a dark base color that is NOT my color. What you can see of the inside back wall is the correct color. This darker base is to make my color come out truer - is that a word? I'm pleased Marcos takes these extra steps. The primer below is kind of a red oxide, rusty orange.

The colors below really are my color. Though the flash makes some of them a bit lighter than they really appear.
http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps344r2ewb.jpg

http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...psilbz0ly9.jpg

http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...psqem1osdr.jpg

The closeup of the door is very accurate. This was all sprayed Saturday afternoon. Nothing has been color sanded or polished yet. The interior will be getting three more coats of clear.

Needless to say I am totally STOKED that we've gotten this far. The underside of the hood and some miscellaneous interior items - glove box door, radio delete plate, windshield garnish molding, cowl panel, etc will be sprayed at the same time.

Thanks guys.

For some reason when the frame and misc components were sent for blasting/powdercoating the transmission crossmember was missed. It's being done now. When it comes back the drivetrain will be finalized, a driveshaft measured/ordered, the fuel lines reconnected and the brake lines bents and mounted along with master cylinder.

I wish!

The interior paint still gets 3 more clear coats after a "dwell" of about a week. Then that gets color sanded and polished.

Underside of hood, insides of bedsides, tailgate (and probably other stuff I have forgotten) all get painted/color sanded/polished - THEN the painting on the exterior starts. Ugh, it'll be awhile before assembly starts.

Dan, are you having any "bedliner" material sprayed on the backside of the fenders or floor bottom?

:uhmk:

Yup, absolutely! I don't want a stone to fly up and leave a reverse dent or a star crack on the paint in a fender. But we're spraying body color over the bedliner in the fenders so that's what is seen.

We're also going to spray the underside of the cab floor. Not spraying that red though. I'm UNDECIDED on whether I need this bedliner stuff on the cab floor, toeboard and back wall? Opinions solicited.

But I'm putting a Dynamat-like product in those areas so do I need both?

That's DEFINITELY the plan. I've asked Marcos, the painter if we can have the paint done by April 1st? (start of the baseball season) I am shooting for the truck fully assembled, wired and debugged by Memorial Day weekend. Precisely because I want it for the entire summer.

Man this truck is going to be spectacular! Excellent choice of color. As far as bedliner, I'm spraying my fenders and underside of cab. dynomat in cab. BTW got my driveshaft installed today. From inland empire driveline. Perfect fit. 3" diameter up to 500 hp cost 425$

Dan in Pasadena 03-08-2017 01:34 AM

Re: Danny Boy is BAACK! w/ '55 Big Window

Good info on the driveshaft, thanks. I think Mike has someone he uses locally but I will definitely ask what price to expect and I'll go with saving some money.

Yours is Steel? Mine will be. I don't need aluminum.

Don't think you'll need to spray the inside of the cab if your plan on laying down a sound deadner.
