Do you have any interest in two S-6 heads with long shafts....I believe around 15" shafts. I don't have any use for the S-6 parts anymore. Also have a long white handle and cap.....someone needed one, just can't remember who. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks for the consideration, but I've already got a bunch of spare S6 parts waiting for someone to need them. Those CH heads a really beautiful, but well beyond my budget. I'm afraid I'll just have to admire them from afar!

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
After disassembly on both models, they put far more time and money into the CH models. It is much heavier in design and just better quality in my opinion.
They will both function the same as all the parts are interchangeable, minus the head units. But I just prefer the look of the CH model. I'd love to have the correct CH, but it'll be way off and have to be a good deal to make it work. One thing I do like about this model is the mirror on the back is not fixed like a lot of the ones I've seen. It has quite a bit of adjustment to it. And I'll find homes for the other two units since your good on parts. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Not much to update today. The energy suspension trailing arm and panhard bushings came in. So I can add dropping the rear end to the list now.
Have new springs and shocks to install also and the posi conversion to do. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Yes sir. Been off work late every night this week which has delayed my hood work. But off at 5 tonight and will be out there once I get the sprinkler set up on the garden. Garden got bumped up from 200sq feet to almost 500sq feet this year.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Our garden went from twice that..Down. To much for us anymore with all the other things to do. Looking forward to the hood work. :chevy:

So I was finally able to pull of the NOS park light lens that I've had squirreled away forever.
Also took the 63's OEM assemblies, cleaned them up and got a coat of white on the insides. Will complete the assemblies tonight when I'm off work. Then I need to flip the hood, install the new hood seals and rubbers, bed line the underside and get it mounted. |

Always weird following on FB and here.
Looking great. looking at the floor where the trestles are, do you not have a dust problem, or is this just the hardening area for paint? |

I did have one weed seed that blew in yesterday about 15min after final clear coat that stuck to the clear. Hoping it'll come out when I buff. Concrete will be done hopefully this winter and then I won't have to worry about it. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
The hood really turned out beautifully, especially considering the environment where you paint. Nice work!

Hood looks awesome. Now yell at Austin to come over and help you put it on.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
The hood looks great. I need to get by and see it in person. I met a guy with a 61 this weekend that I will be helping. He needs a hood hinge if you know where one is.

Off late and just too much to catch up on at home. But did get the park lamp assemblies finished paint wise. Pulled another set off another hood I have for the screws and hardware. Should be able to get the assemblies done tonight.
Have all the rubbers waiting to install also, just need a set of hands to help flip the hood. |

I used to be terrified to paint, but like most things practice will give you what you need to establish your own technique to paint. The mix ratios can be looked up or gotten from the suppliers and the base coat can even be purchased premixed, so just practice after that. The worst thing you can do is have to sand it down and repaint again. And I was just there with the front end a few weeks ago when the color didn't match. Space can be a big factor for a lot of people. I have the space, but not a proper paint booth, but I have still have good success (err...maybe luck). Thanks for the positive comments. Note: I'm just using a 30 gal upright compressor and a lowes mid level HVLP gun, so it can be done at home and with marginal money. I do buy good paint, currently using the PPG Omni line. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
It is a skill to be able to paint though. My truck will be my 1st paint job so I'm hoping it goes well. Done tons of study and like you, have painted many small things. Good work. Liking the decal. :chevy:

The only info I can pass on about painting in my opinion is that the clear is where you really have to pay attention. Primer is an easy fix as is base coat. Tack rag good between coats. Prep is everything. If its not right before you paint, it won't be right after. The clear in my opinion is the hardest as you lay the coats over each other and it hardens a little different than the paint, so its much harder to fix issues like trash in the coat once it goes down. I like to go light over heavy and multiple coats so I don't get runs. Runs do happen though and can be buffed, so don't sweat it. Like mentioned before.....its only paint and can be repainted if need be. You'll be fine once you start painting. Ohhh....and clean the gun good, especially when going from primer to base and base to clear. I like acetone personally. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I've had some experience painting..painted my bed and fenders awhile back. lol But learned the hard way...never use cheap paint. Too thick for sure. But, I wasn't to worried about how it came out then because I just wanted the metal covered. Thanks for the tips. :metal:
