Measure the tank, then measure it again! Then compare to where it would sit inside your frame. I think the frames on the 99 and up are wider than the 73-87's, but I can't be certain. The other way would be to get the tank, strip it down, and stuff it up in there and see what happens. It might interfere with the driveshaft, crossmembers, etc. Remember, the 99 and up tanks are on the inside of the frame. My first thought it that no, it won't fit. But without having one to try for myself, I can't be sure. |

^^^ Get a BIG Hammer!!!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
for what it's worth, a 87 fuel tank is less than 80 bucks on rock auto. yeah, its a spectre. but it fits and isnt full of rust. (hopefully)

But Bob, nobody who knows anything will think you use VatoZone for Fred. He doesn't have any cheap plastichrome stick on crap all over him. ;)

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
I wish I could find e85 here. Only 1 station in town has it and the price difference would take a long time to justify the expense. Of course I am not going to complain regular was 2.54 yesterday. Jay

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
Bob,
Need some help with the wiring on our 86 project. We installed a burb core support and grill. I thought somewhere in your thread you made a diagram for your lights? Correct me if I'm wrong but can I just splice color to color and call it good or what? I notice there are two light blue wires, two dark blue wires and a red wire on the 91 harness? Do you know if these blue wires are tied together or ran seperate. you still have your schematic? Thanks, |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
My schematic was just for the high beam relay mod.
The blue wires are tied together and spliced into the single blue wires on the truck. I do have everything written in my notebook, but I'm on vacation at the moment. However, I am fairly sure all he colors are the same. But if you haven't finished it by Monday I'll post up my notes. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
Where exactly did u route the fuel line, as far as keeping it away from the manifolds goes? How far from the manifolds does ur line sit?
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
I dont remember how bob did it, but I ran mine from the fuel rail line to the firewall to and secured right next to the a/c housing, then down from there it goes on top on the frame rail just to under the cab and by the time I have to bring it "inside" the rail its already too far from any heat,...I used braided line... good luck
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
Hmmm, I haven't been getting any email notifications for any thread lately.....
Anyhow, mine runs along the inside of the frame to just about 6"-8" ahead of the trans crossmember, then crosses over and runs up the back of the trans to the fuel rail. Pretty much follows the OEM location of the TBI fuel lines. On another note - I just got my card in the mail yesterday to renew my registration. Hard to believe that I've had this truck for a year already! My son and I took it on a ~350 mile road trip on the Saturday over Father's Day weekend. Went out to Julesburg and watched some drag racing, then up to Cabelas. Stopped by a Dairy Queen after that then headed home. Traveled about 350 miles through 3 states and a lot of fun that day! :D |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
I was wondering what happened to you Bob. I haven't seen you in a while. It is kind of weird that it has been a year already since you got Fred. A lot has happened since that time. Glad to hear he's running good, and giving you many miles of fun!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info
So here are the seats I picked up Friday. 60/40 split bench from a 95 ext cab. Manual adjust with power lumbar on both seats.
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...5ipsc/Seat.jpg They are cleaning up pretty good, they are much nicer than what the cell phone pic makes them look! I went to my old place of work and picked up two pairs of slide tracks. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...seattracks.jpg Plans are to remove all the OEM hardware off of the seats and install the above slide tracks. Then I will build a rectangular frame from thick wall 1" square tubing and attack mounting tabs to bolt into the stock location on the floor. Then I can make mounting tabs to fit the new slide tracks. This was I can set the seat height right where I want it, as well as the angle front to back. I've mentioned getting parts and stuff from my old employer before, so I thought I would post this. This is where I worked up until early 2002. http://www.rmtus.com/ I started there building trucks, then moved in to the van production shop. Worked in every stage of van production and eventually became the production manager. It was a really fun place to work, and I got to build some pretty sweet rides. My wife worked there too for awhile. I got her a job in the upholstery shop right before we got married, then she worked with me in van production, then she eventually moved in to the retail store. She worked there for about 4 years. This was where I pretty much self-taught myself how to fab stuff. In the later years I was the one building all the one-off vans, and almost everything was hand built. |
