Thanks for the informative response. I really want a wider tire under mine. It looks like a mini tub is in order...I kinda already thought that would be required. Thanks!

BTW, at 43 I've got plenty of gray too. I figure I'd prefer that to bald spots!LOL

:gmc::truck:

Well .. It looks like the ole GMC is going to Texas.

.. More to come soon. Not 100% done just yet but we have agreed on a price. I will say it's a forum member so at least she's staying in the family!

This one's gonna hurt guys. I don't usually get attached to them but man this truck is one of the best Pop and I have ever done. It really turned out nice.

I'd like to thank Mr. Nate Porter for all his help. People are SHOCKED everywhere I go with the craftsmanship, welding, geometry, I could go on. .. My 68 will be dripping with PB stuff. NO DOUBT. Thank you brother.

Once it's done, I'll let the new owner post as he wishes. But, it looks like it's a done deal.

I have to admit this kind of hurts my feelings as well so I can't imagine what you must be going through. After reading through all the pages of your build thread I somehow got attached to it also. lol However on another note it hopefully will alow you to build your 68 exactly the way you want it to be. You and your pop have serious skills!

Congrats Chad! Wonder if I'll see it around.

Btw... I'd still like to see that 1.3GB video you mentioned. Not nearly enough HQ video documentation of these beautiful trucks.

Congrats on the sale. Since I'm in Texas, maybe I will get to see it sometime. Hope the new owner posts up when the sale is finalized.

You and your Dad did a great job on this one. Just take lots of pictures before she leaves....

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Here's the video.

I'm 99% sure the truck is sold, just thought you guys might like to see the finished product top to bottom.

When Pop starts it up, there's a slight ticking sound. I have never heard it before, kinda sounds like a lifter but it's not there in person. It would have bothered me too much. I would have fixed that quickly.

Also, the brake rotors are Corvette, but not Z06. He meant to say Grand Sport. Same part number as the 96 GS LT4 cars.

Cool video. Great attention to detail once again on the build.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Hey, I made the video, but I am no Stephen Spielberg! ;)

I didn't know I was so shaky... dang it's rough getting old. I don't know what was up with the sound either. The truck sounds MUCH better in person. Maybe I had the volume turned up too high on my camera? The under hood noise is coming from an A/C compressor that is low on Freon. I forgot the A/C was turned on. We were looking for some R-12 to charge it up, just never have.

Guys, this has been a fun build, and turned out to be a super cool truck. I hear a '68 Big Block SWB Bowtie calling our name on the other side of the garage. Wish us luck.

POP

:whine: Done deal. It's sold.

We may see another thread on it, I'm not sure but it is going to a super nice guy and a board member too so I couldn't be happier.

Watch for the Big Block truck! That's all I'm sayin !!

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Yeah.. Its going to a great guy, he and I have been talking all day. I'll be putting the money into helping us start a family and finish up some house stuff..

I have been talking to Travis too. Accuair, PB ext,.. :metal:

It will all work out. I'm not sure what the new owners plans are for this one bit he has a sweet 72 Sierra Grande too.. so this one will be in the garage with his little brother!

I won't spoil it for the new owner but I'm thinking he will post some stuff on it. You'll see it again soon.

The ole BB truck is going to be finished and kept. That's my Coleys Garage tribute to my old man. Not going anywhere.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Well......time to step forward....feel like I just won the Lotto!! Chad and Pop's have done a great job on this sweeeet 70' GMC SWB....I could not pass it up. I am a GMC fan from way back, and have always wanted a SWB. I had seen a couple of pics from time to time of Chad's ride, but did not follow his build thread. Long story short, I did some fast reading....did not take long to make my mind up, blink and it could be gone!!! ;)

Chad has been nothing but great to work with....we have just about got all our i dotted and t crossed. Getting a transport lined up now (anybody has a good suggestion for a enclosed transport carrier/service, door-to-door service..let me know). I will post pictures of this sweet GMC SWB 70' next our father/son project 72' GMC SG LWB when it gets here.

Can't wait to go forward with what Chad & Pop's have started/done with "Grande Slam" :gmc:

72' "Hugger" is ready for a stall mate!!

Thanks for all your help Chad in making this happen!!! I know how it is to get attached to these projects....Pop's and yourself put lots of hours in this one. The truck will be gone soon, but those memories will be there forever. I would like to keep posting on the "Project Grande Slam" thread for all past and future followers.

As I told you..."I know you got my back, Southern Trust" ;)

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

** Help us out fellas **

Specifically our TX brothers. Are there any issues with state inspection if the truck is C-notched?

Keith? (N2Billet). Do these trucks with bags/ notched frames have any problems with state inspection?

knomadd 06-23-2013 02:28 PM

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I've never heard anyone having any problems with inspection with a modified frame. I don't have mine notched...yet... so I don't know for sure though.

Zoomin 06-23-2013 02:45 PM

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I know some people that have run into problems if the VIN on the frame doesn't match. I doubt a notch would be a problem.

Congrats on the purchase!

Have you formulated any plans yet?

I sold a 1987 GMC truck to a guy in Sherman Tx and it had a c-notch and he had no problem getting an inspection sticker and the tag. It's been about 3 years ago, so I'd assume that things are still the same.

The stock swb intermediate cable is 94 7/8" long. When I tried to connect this one it was about 12" too short .. using the McGaughys rear disk kit.

So, I did some research late Friday night. (Rock auto.com). I found that the 72 Buick riviera is 106.5" long. Absolutely perfect. ACDelco part #18P5.

I have one in hand right now. I will install it tomorrow afternoon (just can't make it to Pops today) but I am 99% sure it will be perfect. I will let you know for sure.
