Re: Nik's 62 build
That motor mount certainly is an improvement. Keep checking things off the to do list and you'll be driving soon.

Over the past couple days I've been getting the firewall finished up, putting in grommets and clips, organizing wiring etc. And just last night I had two buddy's over to give me a hand getting the motor in, as you can see below we had success! |

All I needed to do to get the motor in was attach my front motor mount perch to the crossmember, to my surprise when I mocked it up it lined up perfectly! So all I needed to do was weld it up. I also plan to drill holes through the crossmember and install some grade 8 bolts just to be safe.

Yesterday I went on a parts hunt again and came back with a few neat items I got from a 61 one ton cab, one of them was a choke cable assembly, here it is. |

Here is the old one that needed replacing badly, some kind of aftermarket cable and knob that didn't fit correctly and was also broken

I installed it in the dash and ran the cable through a grommet in the firewall and hooked it up to the carb. Now all the dash knobs match. The yellow one below will not be staying.

And the other item I got from the 61 cab was this neat pair of chrome coat hooks that were attached to the upper corners of the cab behind the seat, not sure if they were an option or not but I thought they would look good in my truck. Chrome is pretty pitted so I'll probably just sand and paint them.

And this afternoon I spent a few hours bodyworking one of the inner fenders and got it sanded with 60 grit then 120, then 220 and sprayed one coat of rustoleum, sometime within the next week I'll put another coat on and get the other inner fender finished. This will allow me to start bolting all the front sheet metal on.

Didn't have too much time today but I got started on the dash extension project. I made a template from construction paper planning out where the four gauges will be located and decided how I wanted it to be shaped. Here it is taped up to the dash.

I cut a couple of pieces out and that's all I got done so far. I'll be continuing progress on this tomorrow

Re: Nik's 62 build
Hey Nik, man your really knocking it out of the park! Your making me feel lazy, working dispite the weather hahaha. That engine is sure looking good back where it belongs :metal:

Re: Nik's 62 build
Looking really great! I've never seen a engine perch like that before, my V6 has the horseshoe mount but it bolted directly to the crossmember. I think it's amazing that you are making such good progress and spending very little money along the way. Keep it up! Can't wait to see you driving her down the road.

I know I've said this before but the your attention to detail and the quality of the build is awesome! I wish I had half the skills you did when I was your age, you're going to have one sweet little head turner of a pickup soon :metal:

Here is the gauge cluster almost finished up, I really took care keeping the gaps tight, the welds good and smoothing it out to a finish that is so good it won't even need a spot of filler. It's all made from just plain old flat 20 gauge sheet metal. I used a hole saw to make the holes for the gauges. Here is a front view of it. |

Here's a good picture of the bottom, the weld seam is literally invisible.
