Thanks, yeah, that car is beautiful my brother has a heck of an eye. I hate to see it go, he just sold it a few days ago, we built in in the early nineties. From pulling the 1922 Buick body out of a farmers field to rolling it into the Oakland Roadster show, my brother and I were side by side in the project. Wonderful memories. Our dad was a Buick salesman, so building an all Buick hotrod was a big deal to us.

didn't do anything to the truck directly. every vehicle I own broke at the same time. my wife has a newer Hyundai sonata that suddenly had a charging issue. she started driving my firebird while I tried in vein to fix her sonata. while she was driving my firebird the rear brakes went out on it and had to be replaced. my truck is almost back together. it literally needs the two radiator hoses put back on, the alternator belt tightened, and battery hooked back up. so 30 minutes of work? however Ive been working on everything else and my tools ended up ALL OVER the garage. I spent about an hour and a half wiping all my tools down and putting them in their homes and sweeping up. feels good to have my garage back. maybe I will get the chance to get the death rattle fired in the next couple of days. sure miss driving that thing.

Completely understand your pain, when it rains it pours. Life of a do it yourselfer.
Way to tackle the challenge head on and find time to organize in the process.

The correct window regulators showed up today so I was able to get the driver's side assembled. The passenger side will have to wait until tomorrow night...

As I finished doing something on the truck I walked away feeling like I did nothing because I don't know what to do. First, I sand blasted the striker and components on the hood only to wonder, ok, what the heck do I do now with it? They were zinc plated I assume, which was long gone. So what the heck, paint them so they get all scratched? I am thinking just priming with with an etch zinc primer and a thin coat of paint.

I then removed all the hub cap clips on the 50ish Chevy wheels I have to have them sand blasted. But it hits me, do I really want these? They are only 5" wide, they were gotten when I was building a super accurate Motorama truck, now it's going to be a daily driver so maybe I need to be thinking 6"? I do want to run white walls and all that, but may be I should be going 6" with a little wider tire for day to day use?

I want to use SPI all the way through but I am not sure if they have the color I want. So I have color chips I am going to compare with the colors I am after, I think I will be going with 58 Corvette Signet red.

There is a LONG way to go as I have a million hours of body work, all the primer I have been spraying is over unfinished metal work, epoxy to get it protected so I could move on.

No big progress just marking one item off the list of things to get. A guy had an add on Craigslist that he was parting out an 06 Equanox and I snagged the electric power steering unit from him for a real decent price.

I had to load up some scrap and sell it to pay for it ( being on retirement pay will do that to you) but got rid of some stuff that was in the way and cut the out of pocket cost down in the process. I'll have to get the module kit to make it work but that can wait a while.

In comparison to so many current projects, mine is very minor. But still important to fix and maintain. Today I had to find why my brake pedal was sticking and the engine would maintain a higher rpm occassionnaily. Having fixed both of those matters, I did what I now enjoy doing; detailing the engine.

Maintaining matter, after all the only reason we have projects is due to the lack of.

I started prepping my driveshaft for new U joints. Also removed my Cruise Control module from my old car due to it wanting to go full James Bond at an intersection this evening.

I managed to put the passenger side glass is in tonight without scratching anything. Both windows go up and down smoothly and nothing rattles. The front and rear glass goes in this weekend.

I did get a few more pieces ready for paint today -- steering wheel, glove box & hinge, hood hinges & springs. Waiting for these two hurricanes (Gordon and Florence) to get out of here so I can paint.

I did next to nothing, but something. I marked all the running board brackets so I could remove them and know where they go. I knocked the top of the rivets off with the little grinder so I can center punch and drill them tomorrow.

I also got a call that the sand blasting is done so hopefully I can go get the stuff tomorrow.

Where did you get those peep mirrors? How are they attached - screws through the door frame or hook over the top of the door?

It was designed to clamp over the edge of the door frame but there wasn’t enough room to clear the drip rail. I removed the clamp and put a screw through the frame. The base needed some massaging to fit the contour of the sheet metal.

I'm doing it for a couple of reasons, first I can run a Vintage air compressor bracket that puts the AC compresser on the left side above the alternator on my 292 and get it down out of sight a bit. Second, I have a real nice manual rack that came with the 92 Dakota donor truck for the front suspension and won't have to deal with a power rack, or pump, hose, belt or what not. The end cost with the electric ps unit and the kit to make it work is about the same though so it isn't really a money saver. Just less clutter under the hood.

Nice touch with the peep mirror. I am planning n putting a new repro stock style one on mine. They look pretty swoopy.

Just doing odds and ends tonight, including putting on the hood springs. I'll be ready to start installing the front clip as soon as the windshield is in.

Daaaamn that truck is well detailed. It's one of those cars or trucks that I will look at while at a show and find my self searching for a flaw, looking deeper and deeper where you "aren't suppose to look," that is what that truck looks like, one of those cars or trucks.

I spent my "five minutes" working on my truck that I do every day driving to Oakland to get the stuff I had sand blasted. When I dropped it off, it took me an hour to drive there, drop it off and be home, I left at 10 am on a weekday. To get it, leaving at 3 pm, it took over an hour just to get there! So on the way out I took a little break and went over to the San Leandro Marina to see SF across the beautiful bay.

The glass guy showed up so now all of the glass is in. Working on what I can until I can get some help hanging the fenders.

Removed the U joints from my driveshaft, cleaning for new U joints and yoke. Secured all the brake lines and now ready for bleeding.

Spent additional time and installed the driveshaft, filled and bled the brakes. Missing vacuum hose to booster so I’ll make a trip to the auto parts store.

Well..................had a long day with a walking tour in a historic district in my town, and then a wedding reception of my nephew's, just got home. But before I headed off for the walking tour I got some work done on my sandblasted parts. A weld here and there, a dent hammered out here and there and then found this....one of the hood braces is pretty badly rusted, CRAP.

I have to get this stuff primed tomorrow but then I will have this rust to fix.

That was a big surprise, did't see that coming.

Crazy how metal can rust, it looks almost like new on the outside, but it’s paper thin. Hard to see it sometimes.

Yep, I just hope I don't find the same thing on the other side. It looks good on the outside but I have to inspect it better on the inside, I don't want paper thin metal supporting my hood hinges!

I got some work done on a few parts and then got them primed today. WHOOO HOOOOO! Every time I paint or prime little parts like this I think of the restoration shop I worked in back in 79 where I would have like 50 or 75 pieces in a booth for a few different cars painting them like this. Damn I learned a lot at that shop!
