Today I mocked up the bed supports. You can see I have a helper to craw under the fender to tighten and loosen the bolts as needed. He can get in there easier than I can. I tacked welded the supports and took it out of the truck, then I welded it complete. I was still 1 inch off so I squared it up with straps. it is square now. I still need to weld three more supports to the frame. I am using 1''x2'' square tubing for my supports. I will use the same for the legs to the truck frame and bolt in place to the frame.
Here are a few pictures of the work thus far. Also painted the step side back up light brackets black again. Still need a couple more coats of the black. Not as shinny as I like them to be.

Always good to have help. So that frame is for the bed floor?

Yes it is. I am raising my bed floor 5 1/2 inches. I like the way the step side bed looks with a smaller box.

Re: 1968

I did repaint the brackets. Now they are really sweet. I hope to finish the bed supports tomorrow. I have a little to do over at a friends house. Helping him with his railings on his 2 nd story. I built the home 5 years ago. He is still not living in it. He lives in Boston, Mass. So I watch out for him.

Well, today my son came over and I helped him do a brake job on his 2006 3/4 ton 4x4 disk all the way around. So I did not get to work on my truck again. But, I did get a few parts that came in.
gaskets for the outside door handles
locks and keys for the outside and ignition.
ignition switch and bezel

chrome bolts for the steps

Well, today was a bust. I went to install the ignition and door locks and found that the keys would not work on the ignition. I ordered a three set match. Two doors and ignition set. Now I have to wait until they send e another set.

Well, today I had another set of back up lights and mounting brackets for the step side bed that came in the mail.
They were great being used and 46 years old. So I sand blasted them, primed and painted them gloss black.

It's lookin' good George, did you order some new reverse light lenses and chain cover so that chain doesn't tear up your paint?

No but they are on my next order list. I have been very busy lately with side jobs that helps me with the parts. I am glad that you are still around. Have you done anything on your build lately. I went over to your build and there was nothing posted. Talk to you soon George

We're just all waiting for you to get done first, George. :metal:

Gonna be pretty dang sharp when you finish up these final touches. Twas wondering about the chains, too, but not being a stepside guy, I didn't know what you guys did with those.

today, the three key set came in. 2 door and ignition all matching. So I installed the ignition switch and the cigarette lighter. I don't smoke but it at least it will fill up the hole in the dash. I might even leave it disconnected so no one will be tempted to use it. This truck will be a non smoking truck.

A new set is 4.00 plus 3.95 shipping. 7.95 I might as well as look and see if I can find a piece of this rubber and try and make a set. The worst that can happen is that I can't. and I am in no worse shape.

Took the holiday off and spent it with the family. It rained here every day this week. We had dime size hail and winds up to 45. Maybe next week will be better.

Dean/ swamp rat you only get one chance in life to show the family that matter. My oldest which is 9 helped me with building a outside swing. (Honey doo) I let him use the cordless drill. with me watching of course. drilling pre holes for the screws on the swing. These boy are what you call special needs children. they have special needs like all boys.
Here is a picture of the swing thus far with out the arm rest. another day and wifey will be happy.

swamp rat, Kerry, Nick. Started on the arms on the bench seat and something hit me like a ton of bricks. I got so sick, it must have been something I have eaten. I only got one arm done before I called it a day. I enjoyed working with the boys. I will finish it tomorrow.
