Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
PS, I have some of the chrome hub caps if anyone wants to trade for the white ones. I have two NOS white ones and I would trade for of the chrome ones for ones in good shape, other wise I am going to paint the chrome ones with rattle cans, or powder coat.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got a few more hours in on stripping the cab. Focused on the dash tops, which are done. Still need to pull the column to do the area around that, but more tonight. So far so good.

Got a few more of prep done inside the cab. Just need to pull column and hit the face of the dash up around it. Rest of cab is stripped, sanded or scuffed for paint. Wiped acetone to clean until I had clean white towels....so we're getting closer to paint. I need to get some primer on the bare metal tonight so I don't get any surface rust starting. I'll pull the glass when we spray, but tape it up for primer.
Green scour pad with acetone took care of the harder to hit places and a stripper disk on the grinder for the big areas. Would have been easier with the windshield out, but its doable with the glass in. |

What a miserable task. I can't remember any prep job harder than the inside of my cab. Glad to see you have it mostly behind you.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
exactly what I'm doing currently. behind the tank are is giving me a fit though. too much dirt and little nooks and crannies

Im going to do a spray in liner behind the tank. Got everything masked off and a light coat of primer down before gun crapped out. Its leaking, and not a very expensive gun, so ill replace it.
But got enough down that surface rust shouldnt be an issue |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
And the funnest part of the cab is I have to do the fleetside too and its got 2, maybe 3 coats of paint

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Guys, y'all are making me rethink doing my interior!! At least my dash is completed.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Its not that bad, and it'll look great when done. No more nc summers in gloss black w/black bench seat

Also got the last fitting in to plumb the factory gauge to the block in stainless -3 an line. The cluster still looks great from the restore 3 years ago, so I used a spare for mock up. I just got a factory gauge and tach set for the fleetside too, so it'll be easier to do the same conversion and plumbing with all the part #s figured out

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Great work on the interior. It's a lot of hard work but with great dividends.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
+1 to what PDX said. It's looking great.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks for the kind words guys. The encouragement always helps. I got lucky to find no upper cab issues rust or dent wise. The fleetside has around 30 holes drilled by the PO for every bolt on option he could think of and some speaker grill work, so may just swap in a new dash there.
I haven't sprayed a whole vehicle in almost 20 years. Lots of little stuff, an engine or two and tons of small panels, but I'm really considering doing the color inside the cab. I may let my buddy do the clear, but on the same token....whats the worst that could happen. A few runs and some sanding? So maybe I'll just spray the interior myself.....we'll see. Either way, I want some color this weekend. Will get the doors and jams knocked out this week. POL mounts are here, the headers were shipped Friday....so should see them in a few days. So....finish cab this week. My help will be back this weekend, so engine/trans back out next week and should be a fairly quick reswap on the mounts and headers. |
