Oh come on! Tried to find your youtube page but came up with a video of a doctor pulling a snake out of a woman's ear!

Found it! Tailgate mod is one of my favorites!

Rod, how did you swap the needle on your tach? I would like the needle on my tach to match my speedo and fuel gauge like that.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I actually didn't change anything. It's a mechanical tachometer just like a speedometer The electrical tach that most use is different inside. I'm not sure if the needles could be swapped .

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Interesting. I wonder if there was an application that used a mechanical tach with HEI.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

You could get it on 60s and 70s corvettes I believe. There are definitely hei distributors with the tach drive available. The reason I went with tach drive/mechanical tach is because I was worried that the 60's transistor ignition I used would not be accurate with a electronic tach. I know some 69 camaros came with this ignition factory and used mechanical tachometers so that's why I did this on my truck but hei should be more accurate.

Well I did a bit more work on this headlight switch. I soldered the tabs from the reo stat tothe existing terminals on the switch so the stock plug can be used just as it was factory. This does work nice but I find that it dims to quickly between full on and 50%. Like there is no sweet spot of the dimmed light and barely legible. I'm not sure I'm going to keep this on the truck. I might just keep the old bulbs and be done. I spent too much time for a undesirable outcome here.

So I'm starting to work on engine bay wiring and the a/c. Got the heater hoses ran like the manual says with all the proper clamps on. But I can't seem to figure out why they pointed the top heater core hose directly at the POA valve hard line . I can not get it so it doesn't rub any way possible. Hmm.

I could do this. It still rubs slightly but less stress on the heater core. But doesn't look like the factory would have done this really.

It's really getting full Under here. Pretty much everything is mocked up now and ready to come apart except the instant air that pontiac used in 68 . I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to fit it in. Running a vacuum line to it is proving hard to run. Not many vacuum sources on a 67 327 and I've used all of them. I'll have to think about it for a few days before I start to disassemble and get ready Togo back to the body shop.

Quite blizzard like outside here today so I stayed home from work and did some more fun work. I got my cooling lines all finished up from the transmission to the cooler. I hated thinking about doing this. I just didn't want to screw it up. Turned out very nicely! But I'm having a problem with my aftermarket 4 core rad rubber mounts. It's like there too thick and holding my rad up 1/2 inch. Hope nos ones or original used ones fix this.

Lines look nice! Is that stock radiator? New aftermarket rubbers?

chewychevy67 02-26-2024 08:50 PM

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

It's my original re-cored. Everything is original except the rubbers. It it almost like they are too thick. Yes new aftermarket rubbers. I probably got them from lmc about 8 years ago.

So I found a picture of lmc pads vs originals here. Just as I suspected lmc stuff is garbage. Looks like I'll be looking for a set of originals.

Well today I finished routing my ac duct hoses and the last under dash stuff. Now I just have to finish the power to the seats and heaters. So the ducting I ordered as a kit from lmc at the same time I ordered the rad rubbers was also crappy. It is so hard that you can't shape it. I was almost going to give up on the dual hoses to the center vent but then I ordered new ducts from old air products and wow you pay a bit more but they took me 20 minutes and they all fit like they are supposed to.i also thought about using new defrost vents because the original ones I thought might be brittle fromthe Sun and heat over the years but again the aftermarket ones wouldn't sit nicely in the recessed area of the dash. Go figure. Always original parts when possible.

Well I did get the shroud in and the clutch fan in. My fan blades stick out the back of the shroud only 1/4 inch. It's a nos clutch and same parts that came in the truck so this must be how it was from factory in 67. This clutch is specific to 65-67 327 trucks that have the cast iron pulley because the cast pulley has a thicker mounting base than the 68-72 stamped pulley.

I am really close to disassembly now. I drilled the holesfor the vacuum Hose retainerson the Inner fender and decided to mount the breaker for the power accessories on the firewall closer to the power source which will be the starter battery terminal as the 60s impala used. I just have to remake this harness and the forward light and alternator harness' now. I may do those once the truck is painted and assembled.

So today i got my new 4 row rad mounts and they were the same as the others. So off to the beltsander I went to reshape them. I took a quarter inch off all 4 of them. Now they fit like they are supposed to. Still very snug but not feel like going crush the radiator edge.
