Re: Daverods project 66

That's easy enough to fix. Try it. Make special tools to fit where the dent is, and hammer them out little by little. Make it as smooth as possible, then lightly use a fine file to hit the high spots. Then hammer out the low spots. Go over it with a small wooden block and 400 paper. Keep looking for low spots and fix them, and when done. Sand with 1000 grit, and buff it. I did a lot of stainless for myself and friends. For one I did my whole 56 Belair. It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

Sorry Dave , it never ends . It is a sickness, a crippling addiction --When a passion becomes an OBSESSION .... It only stops when the money ends or the wife says STOP:devil:
I know ... I have been there. Heck , I am there again with yet with another project!!!

Another project.:metal: Tell me it is'nt so. Let me guess, a 1950 truck with killer patina. Your going to bag it ,lay it on the dirt, and put a 383 in it. No wait that's my next dream project.

This method is for stainless steel. Your grill is steel isn't it? I guess it can be done the same way. :smoke:

Use a bigger hammer.:haha:

Re: Daverods project 66

Thats what I thought. How many types of metal did they use to make the grills. I think mine is Al. I was thinking about getting a chrome one. And if a cop ever wants to run a dog though your truck don't get scared.:lol:Oh I forgot you live in a cool state. Not Utah. No, wait I don't live in Utah. What the hell is going on.

I was thinking about maybe going over and kicking the tires on this. Maybe try to lowball the guy. I would like it but I don't think the guy has a title. Area codes 760 I think that's in Utah somewhere. Looks like Utah. I do like the wheels, look like centerlines.

Strodder 12-09-2010 08:24 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

You pay for the gas and I'll deliver it for the right price. The wheels don't come with it. S-10 wheels will come with it. Make me an offer. At least $1,500.00. You must have been hit by a hammer for wanting another project. :uhmk::lol:

Maybe it is the fumes from all the sanding the boy has been doing lately. Be careful !
Good luck with the negotiations, I am holding out for a 5 window!

Re: Daverods project 66

There's a nice one here on craigs for $2,000. Check it.;)http://eastidaho.craigslist.org/cto/2043452243.html Looks a lot better then the one in Utah. Only 500 more and much closer. You need it Bubba. Buy it for your daughter.

bubba327 12-09-2010 10:42 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

Yup that will do!! Go ahead and get it and hang on to it until Christmas-- Please!!!
Daughter slid the Yota into a curb in the snow/black Ice and trashed the right front rim (an obsolete Enkei rim no less ) It goes to the front end shop tomorrow to see what else got whacked .
I hope the rack and the struts are undamaged. Ruined the tire too.
The 64 is back to work as a daily driver

I have a 13 year old daughter also but she is wanting a 70's Camaro
But she says " just buy one all completed -It is faster than you building it"

Good thing she wasn't in the truck. Least she's ok. Just more $$ wasted that you could have spent on the truck.;) I would get the truck if it was on a s10 frame and if I just did'nt just waste a bunch of $$$. Kinda weird the frame its on. Still seems like a better deal than the Utah truck.. 13,14,15,16 you better buy something and get going.

bubba327 12-09-2010 11:04 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

I hope the Yota is not done . It is a 99 Camry with 122,000 miles and still runs great.
I am a little worried whether it is going to be worth fixing. I guess we will see tomorrow what all is trashed.
She hit it 2 weeks ago and did not say anything. I drove it last night and discovered things . Of course the tire is ruined and it pulls badly to the right.
The rack turns OK but I wonder if it jumped a notch as the steering wheel is way off center now.
It is only a car and she is OK ,as she just slowly slid into the curb and whacked it just right. Not even enough to set the air bags off .
I have a friend who will work on Yotas and I do not like to mess with them.
I may have to get the 71 project going for a spare vehicle.

You know we have a 33 Plymouth stashed in the barn at the ranch that is a super six short track car. And it has a full roll cage and nerf bars .
Might have to change out the Hoosiers for studded snow tires. Lack of windows and heater might be a comfort issue

And maybe my wife too. She did this to our 05 Impala last fall. The airbags didn't pop out on this either, which totally surprised me. She was fine, just a bump on the head, but the car ended up totaled. Sorry for the poor picture quality, they were taken into the sun, with my hand stuck through the towing companies fence.

Re: Daverods project 66

seen someone adapt kartslicks for iceracing by cutting a few grooves in them with an electric tirecarver letting the air out lay cut to size moped chains intoo the grooves and inflate the tire again , it did great in cornering , not so mush on accelleration and braking though
later i found this....... http://www.rctankcombat.com/articles/track-systems/ .... go down the page to chain and bolt track it looks like a ladder snow chain it should work realy whell in loose snow and mud when its tightly around a slick tire

See there you go Bubba. A 33 Plymouth with tank tracks, roll bar, nerf bars some goggles and a good coat. Teen proof. Maybe some mitts.

Re: Daverods project 66

I need to get my truck back together I miss it. I cut about an inch off my front horns to move my bumper back. Then I needed to cut some off the side braces. Got one piece of trim on. Noticed some lumps in the rear of the bed side so I sanded and hammered and mudded and sanded and mudded. I think I need to go sand.:uhmk: Then I need to go find some stuff for ebay so I can buy my accurair valve thing. I hear rear swing arms are selling fast.

bubba327 12-10-2010 09:09 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

Dave You should be really good at sanding by now.
Got the Yota back -I got lucky - it was just torn up a little
Bent control arm and bent ball joint. Just $661 including two new tires.
I still have a parts fund left so what you gonna put on E-bay???? anything I need??
I have a bunch of misc stuff on E-bay now. I'm trying to clear out the garage and find some space to get the truck in. Sold the weber 32/36 carb and one clifford intake.

Re: Daverods project 66

I kinda suck at it. I swear all I do is buy filler and make dust out of it.;) What do you need I might have it. Don't need a dead mule do you. Most the stuff is snow machine stuff. Parted out a old sled that I got for 50. Bet I got 500 out of it in parts. 180 just for the exhaust. Took boiler out of a house and put a central air. The boiler was 2 years old.:metal: Truck got some good parts from that. :devil:Mules don't burn worth $hit.

what all kind of stuff do you need to buy from me Dave to get this bad boy done?

daverod 12-14-2010 09:47 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

Do you have any body filler and some skin for my fingers? Wiring harness? Headers? Front drop member? rusty roof? I think I have everything to make it go up and down. Now I need to think about going forward and backward and side to side.

ruffrida2005 12-15-2010 08:45 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

I got the painless harness out of my truck. I wont be using it. I paid over 600 for it, but if you offer me a good price I'll give it to you. It's the one built for our truck.

I sold my hearders already.

I have DV8customs front crossmember that he sectioned and moved the arms in. I traded him some stuff for it.
