Hey everyone, back for a little update. On Saturday, after getting #1 up to TDC, we pulled the old distributor, and installed the new. From the two pics you can see the caps are different. So my current plug wires won't work, with the new, so I will buy new wires.

Sunday being Mother's day, Mark and I were at the nursing home for awhile.
After I got home I removed the wires from the coil. Also cut the grass (about 4-1/2 acres)

Todays update: After visiting with wife, I stopped an bought new plug wires. When I got home Mark had removed the old coil and installed the new. Got all wires hooked up to new coil.

Mark ran the new plug wires AND IT NEVER FAILS THE NEW WIRES WERE TO SHORT ON A COUPLE PLUGS, SO HAD TO REMOVE MY WIRE HOLDERS TO MAKE THEM WORK.

Once everything was hooked up, hit the key and it fired right up. I could tell the timing was off, so we hooked up the light and brought it up to 12 deg initial timing, which is what it was before we removed the old distributor. Sounds exactly like it did before the change. Mark did almost all the work today, I just did some small stuff.

Pic 1 New coil in position and all wired up.

Pic 2 New Distributor and plug wires installed.

Pic 3 Old Mallory dist., coil, and resistor ready for swap meet. (Good stuff, just FiTech didn't like the resistor).

Mark and I have a couple things to check and then we will start installing on the sheet metal.

Tuesday's update: Mark and I reinstalled the seat and top.

Then we did a water test on the windshield, last trip in the rain I had a small leak, and thought now was a good time to fix. Found the leak, removed the old rubber from around the windshield, cleaned out the old sealant. Bought new rubber at local windshield place and their sealant. Installed new sealant, installed new rubber and will let it sit till tomorrow, and it should be good to go. Here's a couple pics...Jim

FiTech still performing well Jim? Appreciate the example you set for us with your fixes...windshield leak, new seals and sealant....rather than trying to seal it up.

Hey Doug, Fitech is great, it starts so easy no matter how long you let it sit. Can't wait to get truck back together, so I can take it for a shake down run.

Hope our fix took care of the problem.

How's things going on your end. I know you've had problems with water like us. I stayed nice and dry, but not the city...Jim

yep, my last one leaked like a sieve right at the center piece of tape in your picture. I ended up putting silcone in between the gasket and the glass AND between the gasket and the steel.

cant wait to see you get on the road again!

Thanks joedoh, hope to get some work done today, I'm ready, miss not being able to just jump in and go...Jim

Mine leaked in the same spot I fixed it the same way but with urethane. Kind of glad to hear it is a common problem.

Lower, mine was also a urethane sealant, I think it was made by Dow. Will get a pic tomorrow.

Ok here's my Thursday update: I took the truck for a shake down run this morning, truck ran great, but my cruise control would not work. During the accident two wires got cut, we put them back together, so this may be the problem. (More on this later). Since I sometime got over the speed limit my gas milage wasn't the best about 15 miles per gallon. (More on this later)

Pic 1 Taken last night before the guys came over.

Pic 2 Taken at gas station, filled up and reset to 0.

Pic 3 Drove to Mt. Grove, MO, about 42 miles up the road.

Pic 4 Back at gas station, filled up. Drove 85.9 miles. Top speed 80. Avg 61 (including city). Drive time 1 hr 23 mins.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Cruise problem, not sure Mark and I did a diagnostic test and everything works as it should.
Green light when turned on, yellow light when set, red when brake is hit and back to yellow with resume. Yet when going down the road, green light is working, but nothing changes on hitting the buttons. Will have to do more checking.

When I got back from trip I noticed brake pad smell, and dust on the wheel. Turns out I have a caliper not returning all the way. So I'm just going to buy two new calipers and change them out. Maybe this will help my gas milage:burnout::waah:...Jim

Oh Boy! good to see that thing moving under it's own power again. I have a feeling your debt to Mark is getting higher. Maybe a Large Steak and a Ice Cold Beer would lower it a little?
