I remember those days all to well. Freezing rain was always really pretty to look at from inside, in front of a nice warm fire. I don’t miss it at all other than that. Dads house always looses power for a few days when the ice storms come. He’s far enough up on the mountain that he’s seemingly last priority for utility repairs.

We’ve had snow and rain for a week here, with another week to come. I’m tired of it. You get spoiled by 310+ days of sun a year.

your getting most of it in two weeks! It has been dry here for a good while. We have a good chance for rain every day this week, but it's just brief showers. Heck, New Years Day it will be 60 or so. But... Monday they are calling for high of 37* and snow. I believe some Tuesday as well

35 degrees here. Not much snow. My wife and I went to go look at a vacation house. Not a bad drive but when we got to the place the realtor couldn't get the lock box open. It had some newfangled computerized keypad and the internet was down. It wouldn't open. So we have to go back Friday or Saturday. Complete waste of time.

Realtor was pizzed. She said she's putting the old lock box back on.

Modern technology strikes again.

Sounds like a dream to me. Snowed in at the cabin would be a gas, as long as you have your provisions together. My everyday house is an old log home with a woodstove. I feel right at home (pun) when snowed in. I keep drinking and utility water in store, plus there are two stream and a spring. Candles, kerosene lamps, cupboards and freezer kept full, and beer! I can charge my phone in the truck. I just take it in stride and enjoy the world forced to slow down

I like that plan Tim. I guess my favorite thing about snow is the quietness of it all. Things start getting quiet as the snow begins falling and once a few inches have accumulated it's like everything else has shut down to enjoy the
peacefulness. I have mentioned numerous times about the wife and I heading out to Colorado for a snowy Christmas vacation but she's just not interested. Don't want to get snowed in for longer than we planned.

It snowed here today just a nice quiet couple of inches, No wind at all so it just drifted down gently. I watched it out the window for a while. I think this next Saturday is going to be just the opposite though..... Bummer.

Boog, if you get snowed in I’ll come bail you out. I’m less than an hour from Durango and about 1:45 from silverton, telluride, Ouray etc. Its beautiful country for sure.

It's funny I just made red chili sauce for Quesadilla's. Being in New Mexico I'm sure that you get better Chile's than I can around here.

Washed them down with some "Permanent Waves' beer form Chapman Brewing. Co. A little pricey but good stuff if you can find it. Got no complaints and some clean plates.

I always try to make salsa, chili, and BBQ sauce from scratch. It's just better.

If it's a wet snow its quiet untill the trees start snapping . Has happened here a few times specially when leaves are still on the trees

It's the freezing rain that sticks and weighs the limbs over down here.

special-K 12-30-2021 07:15 PM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Wet snow does the same thing, especially when there are still leaves, or on evergreens. Early season (when leaves could still be on) is when it happens most, too. Hurrican Sandy was the freakiest of all. It was October, so leaves were still on. She came up the east coast offshore, then turned inland on New Jersey and continued due west along the Mason-Dixon line into the mountains where she mixed with a cold front and it snowed to beat h.e.double l! Leaves were still on the trees and there was enormous damage. What powerlines falling trees and limbs didn't take down came down when the powerline poles snapped off in a long series. They had no power for a really long time. It was colder than it ever gets that time of year and people were stuck in rescue shelters, including my mom. Hurricanes are really bad "tropical storms" and this one turned freezing cold months ahead of schedule. Here it is a bit over one day till January and I saw a couple riding in a Miata with the top down. I think It's supposed to be 60* tomorrow. But it will be in the 30s Monday with snow. You really have to follow the weather or you could get caught with your pants down

You guys care to share some recipes? Please PM . I'm not a bad cook and I like doing it alright. Kinda have to since I'm single ya know. But I also like to cook for the ladies. I am lacking in the home made sauce category and would like to change that. Same thing with seasonings. I have tons of great sauces, marinades, and seasoning packets, but I need to get past store bought to feel I'm an actual cook.

Here's what I did not on my truck yesterday after work. I've been digging out my cellar and this beam has footers under two posts that I wanted to shore up. So I grabbed left over materials and built these forms, mixed concrete, and filled (one of them)

I stripped the form today and haven't put the picture on my 'puter yet. I'll add it in shortly. Could have been nicer if I vibrated it. Got some honeycomb, but it's just in the ole cellar anyway. I did some bull work at my job and was about worn out by then

You know Paul, I’ve made it with Colorado, California and New Mexico Hatch chilies and each variety comes out great, they all taste very similar. New Mexico hatch Green chili is in a league of its own though. One day I’ll post some up pics when I make green sauce.

Tim, this stuff is so stupid easy to make it’s not funny. I’ll send you the recipe tomorrow. You’ve likely got enough Hispanic and Latino markets around that you can get the dried red chilis, if not I’m sure your sister in Taos can definitely get you what you need. They sell the dried red chilis at Walmart and the other big grocery stores here.

Thanks, purshate that. My sister's in Santa Fe these days, but still can send me dried chilis. I've had her send them before. There's Badia brand sold here at Food Lion, which I use for spices. We have a Mega Mart in Frederick, which is all Hispanic, but nothing much there that other stores don't sell... except chicken feet! There is a small independent grocery that opened right in Mt. Here is my recipe: Whatever I can get my hands on. I live in a rural area with limited choices. So I use what I have available so none of my salsa's end up tasting like the last one. It's always kind of a crap shoot when I cook. I don't measure anything. I just eyeball it. So far so good. :)

I made some salsa and my wife took it to work and everyone wanted me to make them some. Only one problem. I didn't remember how I did it. I was just throwing stuff in. I don't follow recipes. I create them Unfortunately I don't write them down. I can't duplicate them.

I agree that Hatch Chile's are the best. I had a friend with a sister in New Mexico and when he visited her he would bring me back some. I want to go there for the food.

Tim. I have always thought that cooking for the ladies was beneficial. It show's effort. Anyone can go to a restaurant. Cooking a meal for someone means something.

I didn't cook when I was single. i mostly survived on frozen corn dogs and a microwave. I don't cook for myself.

My honey is working today, which is too bad because it super nice out, very blue sky. Everything is still well covered in snow. I hopped in the little Fiat 500, put the top all the way down, and went for a drive. Wasn't too chilly, I think it was 29, but I had the heat cranked lol.

Got all the Christmas visitors out and the oil pan gasket changed on the 81, so I spent yesterday and today working on cleaning up and reorganizing the shop. Put some shelves together to store bins of parts and stuff. Shifted the welder & hydraulic press around to make room for longer truck. I can at least move around well, but still have things I need to get in storgae bins or shelves.

My problem exactly.... I have been trying to straighten up my shop for the last month but the going has really been slow. Seems like I always come across a part that needs cleaned up or repaired so I stop the cleaning and do that. You know, the 15 minute job that takes 2 hours...

Yeah Bill, Boog, and Leon. You need four more walls, called a parts shed. We are like the farmers, had an outbuilding for each thing, chicken coupe, hay barn, corn crib, machine shed, wood shed... You have a nice one. I guess clutter is inevitable with our sort. Got parts?

I am moving my 12 x 20 barn w/upper floor. It had a mixture of things, including my bigger/heavier truck stuff, like engines, transmissions, and transfer cases and it all needed cleared out. First time that building has been cleared out in 32 years when I built it! I stuffed a lot of things in my screen house, which is up the hill across the yard. I wasn't about to move engines and such up there, so I built a temporary shelter using screws and bolts, for easy disassembly later, on the slab in front of the building. Now that is cluttered. Last night in the dark I kicked over the coffee can I've been setting my oil funnel in to drip all these years. I searched all over for the bucket of oil dry. I knew exactly where it was for over 30 years. The slab is sloped, so... time was of the essences. Finally found it in the far back corner stuffed under an engine on a stand. Had to move things to get even close, reached way back and down barely able to flip the lid off, but no way was it coming out of there. I ran around and found a paint cup to scoop it out and spread. A frantic time for sure. Of course, it is spread right in the path to my tool chest.

Here's the outside. I thought I had an inside picture on the 'puter. I'll grab one and stick it here later

Here it is
