I was going to type Thanksgiving but I thought that would be crazy fast... I had a Lokar shifter for a turbo 350. I called Lokar and they sold me just the parts I needed to convert to fit on my 4L60e. Just a though, maybe they have the spare parts in stock more than a whole new shifter. Just a thought.

Keep at it.

Marc

Thanks Marc, will have to give them a call, I have the old shifter from my 350 trans...Jim

Not a lot to show, but got work done. Installed bolts for flex plate and torque converter, installed starter and hooked up all the old feeds to it. Mark work on the intake installing fuel rails, throttle body and hooking up some BP wiring to front of engine, etc. Here's a pic with coil covers on...Jim

No pressure, but I consider this truck is an Icon, and all eyes are watching

LS power! Love those coil overs, what make are they? I have the Holley ones, but they're composite.

For people asking about the Intake, Fitech makes one that looks nearly the same as well. Along with a bunch of other companies. Such a visual improvement over factory!

Tempest, thank you for the high praise, it's been around for awhile, and different changes over the years. Still a couple more after this...Jim

Jim, you planning on changing your rear gear ratio? I changed mine on my S10 to a 3:73 and still got decent mileage with the OD trans.

Ray, wish it were that simple for me. My Nova rear axle small version only has a series 2 center, can't go to any higher gear ratio. I will need to change my rear axle. It will be done, but later down the road...Jim

Getting little things done the last couple of days. I worked most of one day making up bracket for the DBW throttle pedal. (see 1st pic).

Mark has most of the wiring all done from BP harness, here's where it is in the cab, will be under the seat (pic 2).

While truck is down, I decided to change the faces on my Speedhut gauges. During dusk time the green numbers were very hard to read and never got as bright as I thought they would. Called Speedhut and they will change all the gauges to a black face with white number, both day and night. Cost will be $80.00 for change. I think I will be happy with this (pic 3).

Received new block hugger headers today and installed. Clearance is great and no more problem with brake arm hitting the header (pic 4).

Still waiting for more parts to arrive, but other things to get done while waiting...Jim

Making good progress guys!

Making the pedal bracket was time consuming on my '49. I wanted to use the original gas pedal, so it involved a custom arm also.

After all of these upgrades/changes I bet you enjoy the truck even more than before (if that's possible).

Have you thought off using a Ford Explorer rear end when you changeover? We put a 8.8 under a friend of mines S10 and it is holding up real well. Thee biggest problem is you have to change out the long side for a another short side but with the gear ratios available and abuse they will handle make it worth it.

Hey Ray, heard good things about them, but I have to stay with a rear axle the same as mine, just need to find a 10 bolt, same width as mine, with 3 series carrier, then check the gear ratio...Jim

That's what I run in my '49. I think it will be too wide for Jim's pickup.

Greg, acording to my check the ZR2 is 63", to wide with my wheels.
The S-10 4 wheel drive is 60", that is close to the 60.25 Nova axle I have now.
Thanks for the help...Jim

Hey everyone, been in the shop each day and getting little things done, nothing pic worthly. Been waiting parts, did get stuff in yesterday, and starting using them today.

First pic is the new ICT Billit AC bracket, the first one I had to return wouldn't clear the coil covers, this one fits great. Will remove, scuff and paint it black to match the rest of stuff.

2nd pic is the hook up on the power steering. I installed a low flow valve in the box, then adapter and used the old -6an fittings and lines, hope it works good.

3rd and 4th pic are of the stainless steel exhaust pipes, also new mufflers, flanges, gaskets, etc. Mark and I worked on this today, should finish up tomorrow...Jim

Jim, would you please share the part number for the ac bracket? ICT makes great stuff, I run a 7176 bracket from them on the LS swap in my Z28.

ICT Bracket #551472-3 for truck uses a Sanden 7176 ac compressor (mini), anything else let me know...Jim

Little update from yesterday. Before removing AC stuff Mark and I measured up for new belt.

1st pic is the new radiator set up with an old mount, for checking for what type of bends I would need for new hoses, did find upper at local auto place, should have bottom by tomorrow.

Pic 2 and 3 are of the ac compressor and brackets painted in etching primer

First 2 pics are same parts painted flat black, not dry so they look odd.

finall pic is of the exhaust pipe from header to the new mufflers, Mark welded them up using is tig machine, came out super. They are now ready to install.

Till next time...Jim

Not much to show today. Mark put the exhaust system together, and reinstalled the AC stuff after it was painted. Started fitting hoses to the radiator. Can't do anything without parts, hope some will arrive this week...Jim

Parts did come in Friday (11/26) Mark installed the refaced gauges and hooked up all the wiring. I really like this new look. Also carried the front clip back down to the shop, tried to put back on and found several items that were hitting. Had to pull back off and modify things. Will install next week.

Today I took off the old ac condenser and put on the new aluminum radiator, installed on my original radiator bracket and it was hitting. After checking I found out that the bracket on the new radiator, didn't match the same angle that was on my Walker radiator. This pulled the lower section in about 1/2" compared to the old set-up. Will have to make some changes tomorrow.

Here's pics of the gauges and the radiator...Jim

youngrodder 11-30-2021 09:01 AM

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Gauges look great Jim. I had a similar issue with my radiator. I cut the welds that attached the bracket and moved them to where I needed them then had a friend weld the aluminum brackets back in place.

With fitment, you don't know what you don't know.

Your gaining.

Marc
