Thanks Don. Its hard to keep up with all the projects sometimes. The trailer project has been a pile of parts up until last night. Nice to see it reassembled. Don't know why Rich blew it all apart, but works for me.

Thanks TJ.

Tried to call Rich last week and his number has changed. He lives around 45 min north west of me, so I may just have to take the gamble and drive up and hope to catch him at the house.

Looking forward to the trailer project. Sorry I didn't make it out Monday. I ended up not getting my neighbors jeep back up either. We broke a bolt. I should be up and around on Saturday afternoon. I have a late flight Friday night.

Sounds good. Austin will be down too, so I'll toss some burgers on the grill and get some pepsi on ice!!

Got my break in fluids ordered last night. So....as long as they come in by Saturday we should be able to fire the engine up.

Have help coming Saturday to bleed the brakes and clutch systems.

Finally got around to getting some paint on the last valve cover. Will complete the paint detail and fin clean up tonight. I have a small ring around the oil fill cap that will get painted black, same as the other cover. Looking forward to these being done. I have far more hours in prep and polish than they are worth, but the time will be worth it. I think they look great and will be a nice addition.

Hahaha.....right on. Nice thing is we have a gas station less than a mile away. So will make runs easy!! Tank was pulled when I painted the cab, so its been sitting empty. Guess I'll make a few trips with the 5 gal can and get at least 15 gal loaded up for break in.

Will be with open headers. Been lazy and need to crawl under the truck and finish the x-pipe to header install to finish the exhaust. Not that the exhaust will quiet the engine up much.

Flashback!!! Put my headers and exhaust back on about 2 weeks ago, tore it off and put back on again last week cause it didn't suit me. I hate exhaust work!:banghead:

Say a prayer for you tonight!

Mines a kit. Has actually gone pretty smooth, just a project I started and didn't finish. I only have to make 2 cuts on the pipe from the reducer to the x-pipe. Back half is all in.

Thanks for the prayers though.

I always liked to break in an engine, first start up with mufflers, just in case the is a noise you can't here with open exhaust. have done it without also lol. I also do not run a thermostat and use just water and have a temp gauge hooked up. you probably know all of this stuff so happy brake-in.

I can finish the exhaust....would just set me back a day or so. I have all the dash complete, so full gauges hooked up. And didn't know about the thermostat. That's an easy fix too since its an o ring compression style. Thanks!!!

forgot, i always fill the block at the thermostat opening, then put the housing/hose back on. no air pockets in the block this way.

Eric showed up shortly after lunch. We got the brakes bled, still need some minor adjusting, but won't take much.

We also worked on the hydraulic clutch. Will need just a touch more adjusting there also. Slave still feels a little spongy, so still has some air in it. Doing all this around a big block and long tube headers is fun if you've never had the experience.

Later in the evening we switched gears to the engine. Got the covers swapped, #1 set to TDC, distributor pulled.....plenty of room for removal with the cap removed, engine primed, battery installed and of coarse it was dead, so took the battery out of Austins 63 and the oem starter just doesn't have enough to kick it over. Tried jumping off a truck and same result. By this time it was around 830, so we called it a night. I want to come in tonight and recheck that all grounds are good 1st, before I commit to a hi torque starter as it almost sounds like it doesn't have a good enough ground. Ran block to firewall grounds, battery to block and block to frame, so will pull grounds and make sure we have good contact.

Couple of pics of the vintage covers installed.

Thanks TJ. Hoping I just have a bad ground issue and will have the engine resolved tonight. 2nd battery was good, but just got a click at the starter, so starter/selonoid either bad or bad grounds in my opinion.

In the same boat with you Jon, went to start mine on Sunday, got to hear it run for about 2 mins, for the first time since Nov. Hang in there, I'm sure you'll be making motor music soon.

Thanks....we worked all day in anticipation of firing of the engine. All ready and got.....click. Disappointing, but we'll get it right. The starter was good that I put on it so really hoping just a ground issue. If the ground doesn't resolve it.....pass side header off and starter replacement. The 3 bolt snout starters are very limited on whats available. If I have to replace will probably be a powermaster 3635

Might need some more cranking amps to. Sometimes its the starter....sometimes its the battery not having enough guts to. :chevy:
