Fabricated some caster support brackets for my stepside bed. This allows positioning the bed without using my engine hoist.

Makes moving it in and out of my work bay much easier.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Several years ago I upgraded from a Hurst Competition Plus shifter to a Street Super Shifter. The higher mounting and straight rods make the shifter work much nicer, but it also moves the shifter head back several inches which I haven’t been all that happy with. It finally occurred to me a simple adapter could be fabricated to move the shifter handle and also angle it forward at the same time. I worked up a template and transferred the dimensions to a chunk of scrap steel plate. The bottom of the stick moved forward 1 ¼”, while the knob moved forward about 2”, putting it in a much more comfortable position.

http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/2011/plate03.jpg

http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/4538/plate04.jpg

Update -

After driving it for a day I realized the knob was a tad too far forward in 3rd gear. Since the adapter raised the stick almost an inch, I went back to the shorter stick and reset the angle about ½” to the rear. While I had the adapter apart, I also cut the upper rear corner off. Although nobody else will ever see it, I thought it looked crappy so a cosmetic improvement was in order. Now all 4 gears are within perfect reach:

Amazing how you can wake up one day with an obvious solution to a what was a very complicated situation. Looks good Mark!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Lookin' good Mark, and you didn't even have to crawl under the truck! :metal: Those types of projects are great, come up with an idea, make the part and install it in a short time frame. Congrat's.

I spent the day starting to remove old paint and bondo from the bed rails and rear fenders of my truck. The top of the bed rails had over an 1/8" thick coat of bondo... removed that with a 4" electric grinder and a wire wheel.

Using a paint stripping disc to remove the paint. Works pretty well, noisey and dirty though.

Soooo, some people actually like body work? This is my first real try at it in the last 30 years.... I am assuming it will be more "fun" once I can start finishing, instead of striping.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Friday 15th finished up back of cab with the bodywork, now on to the top of the cab, theres several hail dent mark some are hard to see cause I stripped the can down to bare metal so its all by feel. Im wondering if I can giude coat with a aresol primer? or should I just spray my epoxy primer and then look for low spots? Im hoping to get primer on the can before winter kicks in, any thoughts of what I should do if I cant get primer on it?:waah:

Hate to tell you this but I don't think primer is water/weather proof?:smoke:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

In my experience there's nothing better than epoxy primer for protecting bare metal. And it sticks so tight you can do body work over the epoxy. If the metal is going to be indoors protected from moisture, you can just spray it with Picklex 20. It will keep bare steel rust free indefinitely, but only if it remains dry.

http://autobodystore.com/picklex20.shtml

Standard aerosol primer is generally lacquer, is not waterproof, and makes a poor substrate for anything put on top. It is commonly used as a guide coat, but the best results will be achieved if all of it is sanded off. Then there is no risk of incompatible materials under the finish.

Started to paint the rear half of the frame today in preparation of the bed install. I did all I could with the big brush. A smaller brush next week should just about wrap up this phase. It should take at least a week for the Por-15 to wear off of my hands.

Well I finally got back to playin with OLE BLUE this weekend. My new to me toy, '93 Blazer, has had my full attention for the last month. Anyway, I took the rearend cover off, cleaned everything up, checked my gears & put in new 85W140 gear oil. I also sanded, primed, painted & put my swaybar on the front. I bought it from one of our members a while back as my truck didn't come factory with that option. After cutting out one of the crossmember rivets it bolted right up. Man I Love my '69!

Well like my good buddy Frenchblue72 said. We got a good idea and pushed my frame over to his house, about 3 blocks away with one pretty busy intersection in between, when it got there we put the cab on the frame had to do some minor trimming to clear where the frame goes down for the body drop. Then we pushed it back to its home. Lays rocker no problem. :metal::metal:

Disassembled my throttle linkage looking for a problem, and discovered a fractured nylon spacer. Replaced it with a steel version, which restored the normally smooth operation.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

lets see! I sanded the crap out of my truck cab for the past 3 weeks stripping it down to bare metal. I finally got some epoxy primer on it today. And it revealed alot more then I thought I had to do. Lots of rough spots, and placed where I need to continue to sand, when does it all end? well at least I have primer on it before the first snow here in beautiful Indiana which will be soon. I guess I will spend the winter on the cab yeah

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Didn't do much to the truck other than getting to rear ready to pull. Took off the springs, e-brakes, brakes and loosened up the crossmember bolts to drop the trailing arms.

But I did add a sub-panel in my garage just so I can put a welder outlet in. I have a few other things to get done, but slow progress is still progress.

I see a PVC line with a ball valve.... you aren't using PVC for your air lines are you?
