I see you have the same kind of inverted rear end that I had..... It's a lot easier to take the trailing arms loose, fo sho. Now that my rear end is free of all its' encumbrances...my son want us to pull the third member/axles and backing plates and sand blast the housing (outside). I'm not in favor. I don't want any sand inside the housing or axle tubes...and I'm not convinced that it can be done without that happening.
As for what I got done.....got my newly acquired and painted Wheel Vintiques 16x7's mounted on my '96 GMC. I lost the rake that it had, but I can rotate tires and get some better mileage out of these. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Booterd the caddy hard tillthe tires stuck now I have the DS in a vise and I'll pick up the new carrier bearing in the morning

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Finished installing the kick panels w/ speaker cutouts. Pass side needed a little trimming but the D/S went in fine. Not bad for 70 bucks.

Washed it, waxed it, took pictures of it (see my thread), and drove-drove-drove. Oh, and had a quote on some wheels and shoes!!! Found out I have to wait on those...$$$$:waah:

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Not much... just started 'er up and idled 'er for a while. I had to drop the insurance after I stopped working because of medical issues.I also need to do a bunch of work on it, and I'm not too keen on turning wrenches out in the driveway when there's a foot+ of snow around.

Got the battery charged up in the ol' 68 and took her around town. Next is some fancy vacuum lines to fancy it up and make it run better.
Also, washed the DD 95 after seeing a little mud this week. :smoke: |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well, started out today thinking I didn't like the way the front of the truck was looking so i stripped everything off of her and prepped it for paint.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_7...0/DSCF0904.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_7...0/DSCF0908.JPG Is this normal? The top bolts are not used to hold the bumper onto the frame? https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_7...0/DSCF0906.JPG Wet sanded and primed the front... my shoulder is pretty sore can barely lift my beer to my mouth!! https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_7...0/DSCF0909.JPG here she is freshly painted and still wet.. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_7...0/DSCF0915.JPG this is what was used for paint and primer. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_7...0/DSCF0912.JPG It got to dark to really see how it turned out, cant wait until the morning. Did some more interior work. Put on the new dash bezel with the painted gauge cluster. Installed the knobs that I cleared the other day. Installed an electric pump in my winshield washer jar, ran new wires to it and plugged it into my OEM wiper switch. Shorted out my light switch cause now the tail and dash lights stay on whenever I turn the key on. I guess I will pick up a new one tomorrow and put it in. Hopefully it will fix that problem. Here are some dash pics.

Pulled out just about every inch of spaghetti and started mapping out my new Painless 18 ct. kit. So, this will be my "what i did to my truck today" for about the next month. Also I started tearing down the air system for new bags, valves, and steel braided lines while i have the bed off

I set the pinion angel on my 9" rearend. Removed the rearend and trailing arms. Cleaned the trailing arms. Finish welded the perches on the rearend. Welded the trailing arms together, top and bottom. Painted the rearend and trailing arms. Replaced the trailing arm bushings with urethane and put it all back together.

What did you do to/for/with your truck today ?
I like this thread a lot. It's a real vicarious rush (that means I didn't do squat to/for/with my truck today, I just read the posts in this thread). The amount of work some people can perform in one day blows my mind . Keep on truckin' (wow who even says that now? no one !) |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got my new used grille installed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Painted the frame rails, trailing arms and engine crossmember. Tomorrow, we'll flip the frame over and get what we missed.
My son is a hammer...drives me like a nail! We've done more in the past 2 months, than had been done in 2 years. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Did some work on the leaf to coil swap that I started a few days ago. Got some rivets out then removed the exhaust. Then bolted up all the coil stuff to see how it fits, now I get to dissasemble it and sand and paint it and put it back together. Also have to hit the junk yard and get some misc. parts that I need to complete the swap.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Not a whole lot but i did start cutting some stainless interior trim pieces on one of the lasers at work. And I put my new Powermaster XS starter in. Man this thing cranks!
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Adjusted the glovebox door striker so I can pop it open with one push of the button. Now I don't have to fight with it to get to my stereo.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Flipped the frame over and painted the bottom of everything we couldn't get to on Sunday afternoon. Learned something, too. If I EVER (!) do this again, I'm not going to brush-paint the chassis, regardless of what kind of paint I use. Rattle-cans or bonafide spray gun....that's the ticket.
Once the parts are sand-blasted....the work begins. Looking forward to the chassis reassembly. I want this thing back on 4 wheels. 4 years is too long to go without my truck. I need a fix.....man. |

I finally changed all of the fluids and filters in the "new" '68......I think the oil filter had been on there awhile 'cause it REALLY didn't want to come off.
This is what happens when a stubborn oil filter meets a determined new owner.........and a Vice Grip chain wrench. (nothing else got it to even consider turning.) |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Dropped my 396BB at my local machine/pro shop for evaluation and a complete overhaul. Bought the truck with the engine removed and disassembled. Now I am having the pleasure of having the engine build to my specs.
SO far we are looking at a complete rebuild of the '71 402 heads with new valve guides, valves and seats. The crank will have to go to -.020 and the cylinders will have to go to -.060. The engine and rods will be line bored and balanced. I am also looking to go with a Lunati Voodoo series 60202 mild cam. Not decided wether or not to go with the PO Holley intake and Holley DP (size unknown). I might just go to the Edlebrock mainfold/carb setup for ease of maintanability. AL '69 GMC 2500 Custom Camper '69 Chevy C10 396 That is all so far. |
