Got most of my parts back from the body shop yesterday so I started assembly. Removed the old bed fender, installed the bed steps, installed gravel shields, and sprayed undercoating on the replacement fender. Also drilled out the carriage bolts a PO used on the bed fenders and installed stock style screws.

Got the old girl purring today, thanks to my new friend Eddie. We discovered the timing way off, too far advanced. Back to a factory 8 degrees, and she really smoothed out. Then getting the dwell back to 30, and some carb adjustment. Wow what a difference.
Also found that the mufflers are shot, broken inside and rattling loudly... so off to the muffler shop ASAFP. Also reconnected the cig lighter, and the AM radio antenna cable. Guess what, the 50 year old stock AM still works! Got the hood adjusted so it doesn't stick up by the cowl too. So no new hinges needed. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Yeah ChevyGuy, these radios still work easily. I have the problem of the speaker not being hooked up right by a previous owner.

That primer one I've got on there is temporary. I got the original one repaired and painted, but I'm going to install it after I install the door since the hinge bolts are a pain to access with the fender in place. I was planning on installing the grille at that same time, but I got impatient.

Super happy!! Got new Magnaflow mufflers installed today. The old ones were cheapo's that were blown out. OMG does she sound awesome now!!!
:metal: Ran out of time to replace the donut gaskets (manifold bolts are rusted to crap) so I'll go back next week. If any of y'all are in or near Jacksonville FL, I highly recommend Muffler City. Ron is a C10 guy and really knows these trucks. |

Safe to say when rubber weather stripping has to be chipped out, it's time to be replaced. Also replaced the wing window felt. Thanks to Brothers truck parts youtube tutorial.

Going to paint the replacement column for my 72 . Took the shifter arm off but couldn’t get the turn signal stalk off have both new. At one time someone put what looks like JB Weld on the stalk and screw I even tried my 3/8ths impact on it no joy. Don’t want to break it since everything works and is the correct red knob flasher. So disassembly is at a stand still any suggestions to remove the screw ?

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I suppose you could drill the screw out but it would be tough getting all of it out deep in the threads. You'd still need to heat that JB Weld to release the lever from it's grip though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Buy the dorman turn signal repair kit (49300). When it arrives you can drill out the screw and save the red emergence flasher knob.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
This is common with pics taken with a phone. I also have had some that looked right in the saved pic folder on the computer but were turned sideways when posted in a thread. To correct it I open the pic in that pic folder and click edit, then rotate it 360* and save it. It will be correct the next time I post it. I always click the "preview post" button before submitting a post with a picture to ensure it is oriented correctly.
What I do is open the pic and select edit. I guess it depends on what photo viewer you use as to how you would edit the pic. As for your pics I right clicked on yours then clicked save them to a pic folder on my pc then opened the pics individually and click edit, then clicked rotate 90* and exit the pic. Before closing the pic it asks me if I want to save the changes made which I do. Then I repost your pics in the correct orientation. I'm no techy. This is just how I figured out how to do it. ;) |
