Re: my build thread
that rear frame coming out good
are you planing lowering more? |
Re: my build thread
If I measures right the rear should lay fender. And I'm planning on doing a Z'd frame at the same time I do the rear. Thanks for the compliments man.

Re: my build thread
Looks good! I wish I had that kinda' skill.
Just curious, what angle are the wishbone bars? I've heard they should be at least 30 degrees to eliminate side to side travel. |
Re: my build thread
what the plan for the front drop spindels i hope ?

I'm not sure what degree they are sitting at right now, but if I did it right being its basically a triangulated 4 link that should stop all the side to side play right there. |

Alright Luke here you go! Big update on what I've been up to lately.
I finally took it down to my work and chopped of the rear frame and got my rear clip installed. The front clip is off the cab is ready to be lifted off and motor is ready to be pulled. After that is done I'll Z the frame and clean it all and paint it. Here are some pics. |

And one more of what I did today, made a battery box to mount it in the rear, it will have some cool machined aluminum tie down and the cables will run thru the frame up to the motor.

Update of where I'm at now on my truck. Figured out it wouldn't go as low as I wanted it to so I decided to do a stock floor body drop. Here are some pictures. In the process of trying to find a power rack to buy right now gonna call up some junk yards in the morning.

Thanks guys, been making progress almost every day. Bought a power rack and pinion set up and got my truck back to a rolling chassis to mock it all up. Body mounts hit the ground and I've still got about another 2'' it could drop.

Re: my build thread
It looks like you have built one hell of a cool truck so far...I want to tear into mine as well and do all the frame fab like you so it can get the killer low stace. Thanks for showing the step by step!

Re: my build thread
Well here's an update since the last one. I brought the frame home, primed and painted it. I've also made my rack and pinion adapter sleeves, drilled out my ball joint taper and pressed in a sleeve, typically when you buy a dropmember kit they tell you to drill your ball joint hole out to 5/8. But it only cleans up about half the hole. I didn't really feel safe like that so I reamed my hole out to 3/4 and pressed in a sleeve to 5/8 and its a really tight fit on the bolt. No slop. I ordered a full poly bushing kit for the front end and getting the old ones out was a huge PITA. I got my 5/8 to 3/4 high missalignment spacers in the mail the other day.
Here are some pics. Re: my build thread
I know this is a little late but I just noticed in your pics there aren't any plates welded the the sides of the frame where it is Z'ed. I have always heard you should weld a plate on each side of the frame rail, overlapping the gussets and tying both sections of the frame together. I think they are called "fish plates" or something like that. Never done a Z so don't know for sure.
