Thanks for the feedback guys! Unfortunately my comp is messed up so I can't get pics up just yet. But to answer your question Joe, we used a series of hole saws.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

Those holes look really clean for hole saws, I'm guessing you used a drill press huh? Looks very cool!!

Oh and I'm glad you found the GMC stuff you were looking for :metal:

I would love some dimple dies, but those things are super spendy. :waah:

Not if you know where to look. There is a seller on ebay that sells 7pc sets for reasonable. They're only 1018 steel but I've heard good reports on these. They have smaller sets also. Wish I had known about these guys before I bought mine.

Yep, we got ours from Barbed Wire Off Road. Talk to Leah...great to work with. She talked us into the 4140 7 pc. drilled version, which works really well for what you can't get to the press.

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

We have been putting a quite bit of thought into how we wanted to go with the front bumper. We had been throwing the ideas of a pre-runner style bumper and a stock bumper around and we finally decided that since we already had a stock bumper on the GMC we would pull it off and play with ways we could make it work.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...2-13-09062.jpg

It was pretty bent so we decided to play around with it in the press to see how straight we could get it. We also welded up the stock mounting holes to get a cleaner look
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...2-13-09011.jpg

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...2-13-09003.jpg

After we got her pretty straight we played around and layed out a few holes
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...2-13-09014.jpg

We used a holesaw to cut the holes out then used the press and a set of dimple dies to flare the holes

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab

Thanks guys! Here are a few little details on how we mounted it.
We made a couple base plates to mount the bumper to the winch mount and added a couple gussets to hold it in place.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3416.jpg
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3419.jpg

We had planned on one gusset on each side, but after seeing it mounted up we had to do two.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3427.jpg
Now comes the part I was excited to see... fitting the fairlead. We mocked it up on the bench, torched out the space, and after sliding it in a couple times we got the fit we wanted.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3421.jpg
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3425.jpg
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/HPIM3430.jpg

We now needed recovery points... Like always, we played with a bit of cardboard before we decided on the design we thought would look/work best. We torched them out of some 1"x4" cold rolled and after a bit of smoothing had these...
