Here are a couple of pictures I have. I was using the Red one to clean out the haymow in the barn. Tim already posted the Blue/White Tandem and said it was highly optioned but I thought you might like to see the SPID for it.. LockDoc |

I don't know exactly. That style ran all the way through 67-72 and beyond. Matter of fact,it actually started before the 10-30s changed in '67. Here's a '66 Chevy brochure:

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Special-K, I see that you like GMC 9500's. I'm a 9500 fan myself. I used to drive one that had a rare set-up. It was a '71 9500 Tandem with a 20 Ft Flatbed Dump, 10-Speed Road Ranger Trans, but had a 637 V-8 Gas Engine. Till this day, I've never seen or even heard of a 637 along with a Road Ranger. Of course I had wished it had a 6-71 Detroit or even a 6V-53 Detroit, but it was still a good truck.

I'm not good at posting pictures, but this is one of my favorite 9500's:

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
That does sound like an unusual combo for a gas job having an OTR trans. Those big cube motors went out when oil/gas started gettin' funny,I guess.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
I never did check the mileage myself, but remember the mechanic telling me that it got about 5 to 7 MPG. Back then when I was driving it in '73 and '74 gas had just gone from about 35 cents to about 50 cents.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Believe it or not, 637's are still in use today. They are still in many Fire Trucks, usually in rural areas or small towns.

A funny story kinda goes along with these pics. I snapped these about 2 years ago on my way to a truck pull that was out in Broken Bow. My Buddy Jeff was driving and I was riding shotgun and we had 2 other friends who are also old Chevy nuts in the back of "Marge" (91 cutlass ciera). Anyway were rolling through central Nebraska drinking coffee and seeing who could stink who out of the car(we all had horrendous gas that morning for some reason) when we roll up on Loup city, we notice one big old square body 4x either Napco or a Marmon Herrington conversion but it wasn't in an area where we could stop and snap a few pics, anywho as were rolling down main drag we go by a run down little fillin station and this Big orange behemoth was stittin there Jeff about locked up the binders on Marge trying to stop we all knew it was a big old Napco, Its not everyday you see a big Napco like this and this was the first one I had seen in the flesh so to speak. We all jumped out and snapped a few pics and then we got back on our merry way. I think Jeff has a few pics of this truck as well I see If he has em in his photobucket. |
