Re: slammed 57
Finally found a good hood , so after I got it on, here is the issue I had and after talking with other forum members heres what i came up to fix it, so I will share in case any others run into this situation thanks to mp&C ,big glass and others for I used a combination of everyones ideas
https://www.trifive.com/forums/pictu...ictureid=72654 after putting it on the truck I noticed the outer round edge meets the cowl on the cab would not match up. after talkng with other we all agreed that the hood brace/hood settled int the middle... you can see here https://www.trifive.com/forums/pictu...ictureid=72656 heres what i fabricated to help me reshape the hood brace a bit. it bolts to where the factory hinge would be http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24855 after ,I placed a floor jack with a piece of 2x4 to prevent metal to metal contact and marring the hood brace , starting in the center and every 6" or so move out towards the passenger side . return to the center and then move out toward the driver side http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24856 I measured before and after to prevent of over stretching and it also prevents of taking the hood on and of several times down to maybe 2-3 times. For my application it needed to be moved up about a 1/4" or so. at the ends where the hood ends meet the fenders , you can put them outwards by hand to match the cab cowl gaps http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24859 and the end result http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24854 |
Re: slammed 57
Wow great work. I'm putting this in my build book just in case.
What's the plan for stopping this from happening over time? NC |
Re: slammed 57
not sure what caused it.... so it would be hard to figure out how to keep it from happening again.. not really sure.... the hood was in perfect shape... do dings or dents

Re: slammed 57
Count me in! Love the truck and amount of detail you are adding!

Re: slammed 57
working on the hood gaps
as you can see the aftermarket front fenders gaps are not even close to the originals... even though the originals are not the greatest either....so lets see what we can do bout getting them up to todays standards http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24887 about 1/2" gap here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24888 and here you can see how they raise more than they should http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24885 and now the gap is where it should be. as you can see I split the fender , pushed the gap where they should be, I also had to split the side flange where the hood sits down in the fender to bring down the hieght... finish tacking it up, a bit more grinding down the welds , some hammer and dolly... and one less thing to cross off the to do list http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=24893 |

Re: slammed 57
clever fix on the hood being out of shape!
I love reverse tilt hoods too, I had one once. many people dont know how much work it is to get it to drop in front of the grille like yours does, but I do! great job! |

Re: slammed 57
Slammed,
I have been following your build. You do awesome fabrication work and the truck is looking good. I am working on a 56 and have a few questions. That size wheels and tires are you running. What the the ground clearance at the lower lip of the front fender behind the tire. I am at about 4" and wondering if that is going to be too low for a truck without airbags. |
