Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
Hello Pete,
I like your new K5 Highlander. Didn't know you had started another project. Will look forward to the build. The boys and I are finishing up a lot of rust repair on a 71 Blazer for a friend. It was a bugger because we had to replace all the floors and most of their related pieces. We are only doing the rust repair on it. Sure glad you're rescuing the Blazer. |
Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
Hello Pete,
That was cool to see my buddy Doug from AMS in the picture you posted. Since I relocated out here I still send all my machine work out to him since I go back to Albuquerque often. Especially when it comes to a numbers matching or special build. Thanks Chris |
Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
Thanks guys for following along. Not too much new to report as regards the build - rust repair is wrapping up on the passenger side and soon the front clip will be mocked-up for fitment then the tub and frame will part ways for a while. I've got some new bolt pics that I'll post up soon - the OEM fuel pump bolts are a unique work of art.
My plan from the outset was to farm out the paint/body and machine work to the pros and I'll handle much of the reassembly now that I some workspace. My wife and I have a 12 week old daughter now so she may slow things down a bit more. I'm going to do my best to balance the enjoyment of what may be a final build for me with fun time with my daughter. |

Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby girl. Nothing compares to those little ones. I think my son Clay took some pictures of the Blazer. Will post some if he did. Glad we could be of some help. The people over at Alcan provide a great product for whatever individual needs a person may want. Hope your experience with them is the same as ours. Thank you |
Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
Hi Pete,
Man, I gotta ask where did you get your zinc oxide stuff done, it looks great. Not many choices anymore. Lmk buddy thanks. |
Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
Pete,
I can fully relate to that. Doug has bailed me out several times. For sure when I get out that way I'll get in touch with you. |

Thanks guys!
Dave, Kaehr plating in ABQ has been my source for the clear zinc and black phos http://www.kaehr.com - their customer service has gone down hill and prices have gone up. The work on some bolts is so so but I believe that has more to do with the condition of the metal. Most pieces turn out great. I can post more pics later but here are some washer nozzles. I had the engine and tranny dip sticks and tubes done - turned out great. The fuel tank straps look new. |

Front bucket covers are en route, I've got the back seat cover already. Still waiting on my rear panels - after 11 mos soon to be a one year wait.
For anyone who wants plaid front covers note that GM centered the plaid - there is one complete "band" of blue plaid that runs up the midline of the seat flanked by two white "bands" on either side. Not all reproduced covers will have the plaid centered as GM did it. I could find to consistency in the rear seat but all fronts were done as described. |
Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
Pete,
Thanks for sharing the info. Your project sure is coming along nicely! Your right, it does take time to put everything together. |
Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
(First inline) Pete when you got it all finished up !
Sure is going to be a sweet one! You got a name for her yet ? |
Re: 1972 Medium Blue Highlander Blazer Resto
Pete, it's really starting to come together. All the parts and pieces are looking good.

Thanks for following along guys. The sheetmetal was reassembled and fit nicely as does the top. The tub is in black primer and now separated from the frame, which is off getting sand blasted. The motor fired right up and purrs smoothly ( no roller rockers, just roller cam).
Still waiting on the rebuilt seat belts from Sharon's Web - family illness has slowed her turn around time. I've finally received my repro rear panels. |
