I'm with 60-66, I like the added detail of the zinc. I did the 292 in the blue '65 that way, everything was painted separately.

The paint on the test card was straight from your NOS can after shaking to mix it fully. I didn't add hardener, that's why it's wrinkled up- enamel takes forever to dry. Tinting it is possible to get it to match closer.

I primed/painted the engine block on my daily driver VW with DPLF and urethane single stage with hardener and 10k miles later it still looks like I just sprayed it.

I've been encouraged to add some pics to this thread. Just last week I pulled the cab off my 1965 C10 Step. It's unmolested and I am the 3rd owner. It has 88K miles and I am convinced that the drivetrain has never been touched.

These photos show what I found on the bellhousing after I removed years of grease and dirt with Dawn dish detergent.

These were taken with a flash but I will get more photos this weekend in the sunlight to show the color better.

Most of the factory paint is gone from the 230ci engine.

The truck was built in Baltimore and has spent the last 45 years here in SC.

Just to throw some more fuel on this fire....

Here's my all-original 34k mile '66 Custom Camper 327. Any idea what the "T" means? There's one on both sides of the block just above the oil pan.

VERY NICE !! Looks like it cleaned up nicely Sodly. Lots of important details still intact. Might have to use your engine as a color match for the green paint card we have. So what did you use then to wipe it down with ?

Sodly, Got to see more pictures too. Awesome original truck and even still has the original Packard date coded spark plug wires too boot! I believe that exhaust picture looks like the original Y pipe used on the 327's too as it looks just like the one I have here with that reducer section under the exhaust manifold. That looks like the turbo 400 option? I have a 66 C20 Custom Camper parts truck just like your configuration out here. Very nice.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. It's definitely still a work in progress but I'm pretty happy with how the under-hood stuff is turning out so far. Unfortunately, the rest of the truck isn't this far along yet. I'll post more when it's more presentable. Still got a lot of cleaning and polishing to do. Haven't even started on the exterior yet.

60-66, my miracle elixir of choice is wd40, of all things.

Hotfun, yes, it is the turbo 400 trans. I love you guys pointing out some of the finer details like the plug wires. I'd like to learn as much as possible about these things. Unfortunately, the original exhaust has been modified so I need to correct that eventually. Anybody have a NOS muffler or pipes?

If you have one of the valve covers off for some reason I sure would love to take it over to a K&K Paint Supply there in Lincoln and have them color match it with their computer. They may even be able to take a shot of it on the truck to match it and that would make a lot of people happy on here for a correct PPG formula. My 327 is supposed to be done at the engine rebuilder by the first part of June and I will be wanting to paint it correctly. You pictures have a so much originality details in them. That truck is about the nicest survivors I've seen around here. Mark

This engine has arrived, thankyou sodly for posting photo of your engine. Looks like the scale has tipped to Ford Green, as the closest available engine paint match for the 292 and 327 engines.

I can't blow it up and to post here. The number on the decal is 6420904 it appears like no one repops it. I picked up one that I was told was correct for 65 chevy trucks it looks real close but the number is 6422177 for a 2 barrel.

Thanks for posting pics, This opens up another question now, that being a pic of the passenger valve cover with the sticker. Everything I have seen including my valve covers, that hi torgue sticker has been on the drivers side. Do you have a pic of the other side of this motor , I wonder if it has one on it also.

Both the 65 V8 trucks at this auction had them on the passenger side. But, I cant find a single picture of the drivers side valve cover. I put those air cleaners back on each one and came back to find them off to the side again, maybe "HOTFUN" has pictures ? I just went out and checked my 66 283 and it only has it on the passenger side. So Im not sure if its supposed to be on both or just one.

Pictures of my 65 C20 327 it has 327 decal on right side valve cover across the Chevrolet scrip cover.

Here is a picture of the drivers side of my motor when I picked it up. I also picked up another set of covers and they too had the sticker on the drivers side. I wonder if it was another one of those deals where each factory had there own way of doing things.
