All I did to mount the hinge was grind two small notches for the original hinge blots to sit. Nice and solid, no need to weld any for the hinge. I did need to bend the hinge slightly to get the lens to sit right. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1040850.jpg The welds are ugly....I was having problems lol. The filler is mounted using a strap of 1/8 steel and then the strap is screwed to the bed. The filler "bucket" is just mounted to the filler, not screwed in at all, but it fits good and solid. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1040852.jpg[/QUOTE] Could you let me know what vehicle you got the doner parts from for the gas flip door, bucket and filler pipe? Thanks! |

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Well some stuff has been going down around here:lol: 3/5 drop 1 and 1/2 coils cut off the front springs and 5" McCarthys rear springs with CPP track bar and SCOTI's OE shock relocation brackets. I need to get some smaller front tires, these are just what came with the rims. If anyone has a couple 235/60r15s laying around let me know.

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
I just want to see the mounts really, and cpp installed, good work on the build, driving it during the build would be the answer, shouldn't have started rippin mine apart, but the cab had to be swapped and it's not a daily, super jealous

I just sat & read 5 pages of your build thread. NICE WORK! looks a lot better sitting lower:metal: I'm kinda partial to low though. keep it up. Mike |
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Thanks guys. The reason I'm trying to get it to be a driving project is I already destroyed one of these trucks. I was 15 when I got my '70, blew up the motor and tore down the whole truck for restoration when I was 17. I ran out of time, space and money. I ended up selling it as a pile of parts when I was 22 when my dad was sick of looking at it.
Took the truck to CTC today. Need to do something with the choke, floods every time I try to start it when warm. Heres the rear suspension pics. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1040959.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1040962.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1040958.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1040963.jpg |

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Yes he is!
No real noticeable progress. I finally got it inspected today and got my hot start problem sorted out. Had two problems with the carb, choke was set wrong and it was full of crud AGAIN. Also got the parking brake working and cut 1" off of all the bump stops. It rides much better now. |
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Great job, Ben. I wish I were making the progress you are. Seems like everytime I start to move forward, I think, "...well, since I'm this far into it, I might as well take this apart and check it out." Still going backward after two years. But! It's still fun!

I had that problem really bad on my last Camaro. Original plan was to just replace all the age hardened body bushings & suspension bushings over one weekend then $60k and a year later I ended up with a completely rebuilt and restored car. It turned out OK though because that car helped me get out of my bachelor pad and buy a house in a nice neighborhood where I wanted my children to grow up and go to school. No shop or garage to work in now but my girls are worth it. |
